Good news for Apple HomePod fans . After four years, Apple has finally released its successor, the HomePod 2nd Gen. What updates does it bring?

Features of the Apple HomePod 2nd Gen

In the design sector there are almost no updates. At first glance, the HomePod 2nd Gen design is still the same. However, the dimensions are slightly different. The second generation of Homepod is slightly shorter by about 0.5 cm from the first generation. The weight is also lighter. The HomePod 2nd Gen weighs around 2.34 Kg. The first generation is around 2.49 Kg.

One factor that makes the weight lighter is the number of components it carries. The HomePod 2nd Gen carries one four-inch woofer and five tweeters. Previously, the first generation HomePod carried seven tweeters. Even though Apple guarantees less sound quality, the HomePod 2nd Gen is still very capable.

According to Apple, the HomePod 2nd Gen is now equipped with room sensing technology support. This feature could allow the HomePod 2nd Gen to detect its position in the room and automatically adjust the sound output accordingly. This means that wherever the speaker is placed, users can hear the same sound quality. In addition, with the Spatial Audio and Dolby Atmos features, users can enjoy a more immersive audio experience. This feature can be enjoyed using a configuration of one HomePod 2nd Gen unit or two units for a stereo configuration.

The update is then seen in the processor chip. The HomePod 2nd Gen is powered by the S7 chip, which was first introduced on the Apple Watch Series 7. Temperature and humidity sensors are also now available on the HomePod 2nd Gen.

Most interestingly, Apple is finally opening up to other ecosystems. HomePod 2nd Gen now supports the Matter protocol which is a new global standard for the smart home ecosystem. That way, the HomePod 2nd Gen can become a terminal for controlling other smart devices such as lights, security cameras and other accessories with the same Matter standard.

Price for Apple HomePod 2nd Gen

HomePod 2nd Gen is available in black and white color options. The selling price is US$299. The presence of the HomePod 2nd is also accompanied by the tiny HomePod Mini 2023 with five color choices. The price for the HomePod Mini 2023 is cheaper, namely US$99.
