“For Those Who Dare” is the provocative slogan, nicely etched on the back of the brand-new cellphone which currently lands smoothly on Alomaki editorial desk. Wrapped in a black base color with a sturdy body frame, this new cellphone looks like it’s challenging to push for its performance.

Meet friends, this is ROG Phone 06, the next generation of Asus’ flagship gaming cellphone. As in the realm of laptops, in the battle for gaming cellphones, the Asus ROG Phone family does have a classy reputation. It’s no wonder that Asus continues to produce the ROG Phone line, even though Asus’ cellphone business is not as bright as its laptop line.

Back to the Asus ROG Phone 06, the release of this gaming phone is expected to bring a variety of new advantages, which will make gamers fall in love with the ROG Phone line even more. Without going into detail, it’s time for Alomaki to answer the challenge of the Asus ROG Phone 6.

    Design

There are two variants of the Asus ROG Phone 6 circulating. The two types are the ROG Phone 6 and ROG Phone 6 Pro variants. The Alomaki team itself will explore the “regular” Asus ROG Phone 6. Continue, friend, it’s time to get closer to the Asus ROG Phone 6.

In appearance, the Asus ROG Phone 6 doesn’t have many extreme changes compared to its closest older sibling, the ROG Phone 5 series. The physical appearance of the ROG Phone 6 still looks sturdy and “handsome”, carrying the DNA identity of the Asus gaming phone, which has an iconic design.

Asus ROG Phone 6 looks futuristic with a luxurious design on the front and back. Especially on the back, there is a 2-inch screen that can display RGB images or colors that you can set yourself.

In addition to the slogan “For Those Who Dare”, the phrase “Dare To Play” is also imprinted on the back area. According to Alomaki, these two slogans add to the “macho” look of the Asus ROG Phone 6. Still on the back, you will also find a neatly arranged main camera lens.

The body of this cellphone is made of sturdy glass because it is protected by Gorilla Glass 3. The body of the Asus ROG Phone 6 has a total dimension of 173 x 77 x 10.3 mm and weighs 239 grams. Referring to these data, the physical appearance of this cellphone does look bulky, fortunately it is still comfortable to hold in one hand.

What needs to be considered, because the body is covered with glass, this cellphone becomes a little slippery when held and is easily seen dirty by fingerprints. Realizing this condition, Asus handled it by including an iconic hard case, typical of the ROG Phone, in the sales package. In the area on the sides there are various buttons and ports that are standard for today’s cellphones. Interestingly this phone still includes a 3.5 mm audio jack port.

    Screen

As a gaming cellphone, the screen sector automatically becomes one of the most important technologies in teasing and spoiling gamers. Not wanting to disappoint consumers, Asus has prepared qualified ammunition, so that ROG Phone 6 can become the “king” in the gaming cellphone segment. In terms of size, the Asus ROG Phone 6 is equipped with a screen with a diameter of 6.78 inches.

According to Alomaki, the screen size that is carried by ROG Phone 6 is more than enough to support mobile gaming activities. But it’s not just the size that matters. The ROG Phone 6 screen is even more flashy, because this gaming cellphone display uses a Super AMOLED panel. Apart from that, the screen also has a refresh rate of 165Hz, 1B colors, and a touch-sampling rate of up to 750Hz. ROG Phone 6 allows users to be able to adjust the screen tension level manually, starting from 60 Hz, 90 Hz, 120 Hz, 144 Hz, and 165 Hz

Not only that, the ROG Phone 6 screen is protected by Gorilla Glass Victus and has IPX4 certification, making it stronger and more durable. Referring to the composition that is carried, the ROG Phone 6 screen technology is indeed quite luxurious. How was the quality when tested? When tested, it can be said that Asus’ hard work in the screen sector did not betray the results.

This cellphone screen can provide a visual presentation that spoils the eyes, especially for gaming purposes. The screen display is very sharp with natural brightness, plus a high level of responsiveness. In addition, the movements that are presented visually on the screen are also very smooth. In general, all high-end technology in the screen area is directly proportional to the quality produced

    Performance

For those of you who love gaming, including gamers, of course it’s a disaster when you’re cool in completing a mission, but the cellphone used has slow performance, often lags. Don’t want to destroy the reputation of the ROG Phone line, which is known as one of the top gaming phones. The Asus ROG Phone 6 is also equipped with a runway that is quite rugged.

ROG Phone 6 is equipped with very high engine specifications. The chipset used is Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 (4nm), uses 12GB of RAM and 256GB of internal memory. These machine specifications produce an AnTuTu Benchmark score of 1110172 while making ROG Phone 6 the most powerful smartphone in the world.

Not only does it offer high performance, ROG Phone 6 is also equipped with supporting features that are useful when playing games. For example, a well-integrated cooling system. Inside there is Boron Nitride to cool the engine, while on the outside there is the AeroActive Cooler 6 accessory which also functions as engine coolant.

During the testing process, especially when playing several popular games such as CODM Mobile, FIFA 2022, to games that drain a lot of cellphone performance such as Genshin Impact, the Asus ROG Phone 6 maneuver made the Alomaki team “full smile”. Yup, the Alomaki team is full of smiles, because when I was tested playing this cellphone game it ran smoothly without any legs.

When tested playing games for a long time, about more than 1 hour, it must be admitted that the cellphone body was a little hot. Luckily, the ROG phone is equipped with cooling technology, which makes the cellphone temperature cooler. More details about cooling technology in ROG Phone 6, Alomaki will review in a separate section.

    Gaming Ammunition

As a gaming cellphone, it is mandatory for the Asus ROG Phone 6 to be equipped with special ammunition that can make gaming much more fun, compared to ordinary smartphones. Then what are the special ammunition for gaming, which you can maximize when in action accompanied by the Asus ROG Phone 6? From the search results, the gaming ammunition offered by ROG Phone 6 is quite abundant.

One of them that has been mentioned is the cooling feature. ROG Phone 6 is equipped with the Thermoelectric AI Cooling System cooling technology which is claimed to be able to completely cool the cellphone chipset (360 degrees). If you play games for a long time, this cellphone can be equipped with AeroActive Cooler 6 which includes an active AI-powered cooling system.

Another gaming feature is the AirTrigger button. Asus claims that the AirTrigger feature has evolved, providing more types of control and convenience that make the gaming experience more exciting. Now when the AirTrigger feature is active, you can enjoy motion control that supports up to 10 different movements.

You can swipe your phone left and right to move, slide it forward, tilt it left, right, up and down, as well as rotate it left and right and shake it vertically. Each of these gestures can be set to access on-screen button controls.

Other supporting features on the Asus ROG Phone 6 and Asus ROG 6 Pro are dual speakers, three microphones, Dirac Virtuo spatial audio, 3.5 mm audio jack, water resistance level with IP rating IPX4 certification. Not only touting hardware strength, ROG Phone 6 has also experienced improvements from the software side.

This cellphone presents the Android 12 operating system out-of-the-box with the ROG UI interface. Not only does it offer a theme display that is thick with gaming nuances, users can also make this cellphone interface appear simple and look like most other cellphones, using the Classic ZenUI theme.

The interface displays on ROG Phone 6 are highly customizable and offer practical navigations for comfortable use. Apart from that, there are also various features that can enhance your gaming experience, such as Armory Crate, a gaming portal that offers a special interface for opening your favorite games.

This Armory Crate can be considered equivalent to Steam. The difference is, Armory Crate cannot be used to buy games. Armory Crate provides options for setting graphics, controls, refresh rates, and so on for each game you choose. For example, you can set certain games (like PUBG Mobile, for example) to have a higher sensitivity of the slider than other games.

    Camera

identity of all the Asus ROG Phone series, including the ROG Phone 6 series, is indeed a gaming cellphone. It’s just that that doesn’t mean you can’t maximize this cellphone when you want to satisfy your photography desires. Yup, ROG Phone 6 still has camera features, whose quality shouldn’t be underestimated. Especially if you look at the ammunition that is carried, this cellphone is included in the flagship category.

For the photographic aspects of the ROG Phone 6, it relies on three rear cameras consisting of a 50 MP main camera (Sony IMX766 sensor), a 13 MP ultrawide camera and a 5 MP macro camera. Not to forget, Asus has also embedded a 12 MP selfie camera with a Sony IMX663 sensor to meet the needs of selfie photos and video calls.

The composition offered is fairly promising. When tested, according to Alomaki, the quality of the shots taken by the cellphone camera is satisfactory. In normal light conditions, both the rear and front cameras, the shots are equally pleasing to the eye. The photos look sharp with relatively natural color saturation, the noise level is also minimal.

Meanwhile, when lauched to take the subject in low light conditions, the results of the shots are not too special but are still in the good category. So that night photos can be maximized, and varied, you can take advantage of various additional menus, one of which is the “light trail” mode. You can maximize this feature when you want, capturing night photos with a touch of iconic lights.

While in the motion picture recording sector. ROG Phone 6 is equipped with HDR10+ which is capable of recording video at 8K@24fps , 4K@120fps , 1080p@240fps and 720p@480fps quality.

    Battery

As a smartphone intended for gaming needs, ROG Phone 6 is equipped with a battery that is guaranteed to last. Its capacity is 6000mAh and supports 65W fast charging technology. The manufacturer claims that the ROG Phone 6 smartphone can fully charge the battery in just 42 minutes. You are guaranteed to be very satisfied playing games using this smartphone.

Similar to their predecessors, these two gaming smartphones are equipped with two charging port holes, each located on the left and bottom of the smartphone.

    Conclusion

There is a saying “defending is more difficult than seizing”, so according to Alomaki this applies to the Asus ROG Phone 6. Yup, ROG Phone 6 can maintain the quality of high-end gaming cellphones that have been held by the ROG Phone family so far.

Not only maintaining, ROG Phone 6 also brings significant improvements. One of them, ROG Phone 6 doesn’t get hot easily like its predecessor. The performance of the kitchen spur, also brings a significant increase.

Problem design is still charming, even more classy. Overall, what the Asus ROG Phone 6 carries, makes this gaming cellphone difficult to find comparable opponents in the gaming cellphone class.
