The presence of the Canon EOS R80 was accompanied by the EOS R50 . The main difference between the two is the sensor. The EOS R80 uses a full frame sensor and the EOS R50 uses an APS-C sensor.

Features of the Canon EOS R50

The Canon EOS R50 will complement the EOS R7 and EOS R10 , which are the first EOS R mirrorless duo with an APS-C sensor. The presence of the EOS R50 automatically shifts the EOS R10 to the middle position and the EOS R7 at the very top. This strategy is very interesting. This means that the EOS R50 will be an opening for users who want to switch from the EOS M mirrorless ecosystem to the EOS R ecosystem.

For this reason, there is no need to be surprised if the EOS R50 has body dimensions that are as compact as the EOS M50 II and EOS M50. So, here is the mirrorless EOS R with the most compact APS-C sensor yet. The difference is that the EOS R50 now uses a Canon RF lens mount, new sensors and processors, as well as a more sophisticated autofocus sector.

  • Overview of the specifications of the Canon EOS R50:
  • 24.2MP APS-C CMOS sensor with dual pixel AF
  • Burst shooting at up to 15fps in full e-shutter mode (12 in electronic first curtain)
  • 4K video up to 30p with no crop
  • 10-bit HDR video and HEIF images
  • 2.36M dot OLED viewfinder
  • 1.62M dot fully articulating touchscreen

The EOS R50 carries an APS-C sensor with a resolution of 24 megapixels and a DIGIC X processor. With this new sensor and processor, the EOS R50 is now able to shoot at 15 fps with an electronic shutter and 12 fps with a mechanical shutter. This has doubled compared to the EOS M50 II, which is only 7.4 fps.

Videography capabilities are also better. The EOS R50 can now record 4K/30p videos without cropping. Video recording supports in 8-bit or 10-bit. In addition, this camera can also record Full HD 60p video and at 120 fps without audio. For video recording, it can last up to 1 hour without stopping.

The most interesting update from the EOS R50 is in the autofocus sector. The autofocus system adopts the autofocus technology from the EOS R3. Supported by artificial intelligence, the autofocus system is fast and accurate, this camera can automatically identify subjects, especially in the eyes, face and head. Can also recognize animals such as dogs, cats, birds etc. or recognize vehicles such as motorbikes, cars and trains.

The EOS R50 is also equipped with an autofocus mode intended for vlogging. In this mode the autofocus system will automatically prioritize the user’s face.

Canon EOS R50 price
