Garmin announced the presence of a new running series smartwatch called the Garmin Forerunner 955 Solar. This GPS-enabled device makes solar panel-based charging one of its main selling points.
Garmin Forerunner 955 Solar Features
As previously known, solar panel technology was previously the mainstay of the Fenix 6 and Fenix 7 series. Now this feature is being carried by a line of watches that are intended for runners. The solar panel itself is embedded in the 46mm watch, which will automatically charge when exposed to sunlight.
According to Garmin, the Forerunner 955 Solar is capable of providing up to 49 hours of battery life in GPS mode, when used with active solar charging. While in smartwatch mode, the battery life can reach 20 days. There is also an UltraTrac mode that promises 110 hours of endurance with solar charging.
Because it is intended for sports, the Forerunner 955 Solar has several runner-specific features that set it apart from the Fenix series. This device can also monitor sleep time, HRV (Heart Rate Variability), and stress levels. Users will also be given information regarding what benefits they get from the exercise they undergo.
The Garmin Forerunner 955 Solar uses tough Corning Gorilla Glass DX glass, as well as fiber-reinforced polymer material for the bezel. While the strap is made of silicone. This watch is water resistant with a 5ATM rating.
