The ASUS ROG Zephyrus Duo 16 is the world’s first gaming laptop to feature the ROG Nebula HDR screen. For those who don’t know, this is a screen with advanced technology that is able to provide color accuracy, brightness levels and high refresh rates.

What does ROG Nebula HDR technology look like and what benefits can gamers enjoy? Come on, let’s find out more.

ROG Nebula HDR screen technology

ROG Nebula HDR uses a Mini LED panel. In comparison, a typical LCD panel relies on a group of LED lights to project an image on the screen. However, because the light is always on, the black color on the screen looks a bit gray so the image looks faded.

Unlike the Mini LED, the lamp size is much smaller with diodes below 0.2mm. These diodes can be packed more compactly, and allow for 512 separate self-dimming zones of Mini LEDs (dimming zones). As a result, blacks appear darker and images appear more vibrant.

According to ASUS , the previous Nebula Display technology has brought ROG screens to the fore. Even more interesting, Nebula HDR actually takes this standard even higher by offering a brightness level of up to 1100 nits, a contrast ratio of 100,000:1, and VESA Display HDR 1000 certification.

ASUS says that a regular IPS screen has a contrast ratio of 1000:1, while the ROG Nebula HDR can go up to 100,000:1. The benefits that can be felt by gamers are brighter image quality, better details such as in the shadow and highlight areas, as well as charming vivid colors.

Please note that ASUS has embedded the Nebula HDR Engine, which is a specially designed algorithm that can reduce haloing by up to 25 percent. This engine is trained on over 150 videos and over 2000 photos, to be able to dynamically adjust HDR exposure and minimize haloing. Nebula HDR Engine also supports polling rates up to 5400Hz or ten times faster than other laptop screens.

How about the refresh rate? On the ROG Zephyrus Duo 16 laptop which is already present in Indonesia, the refresh rate reaches 165Hz with a response time of 3ms. The screen also supports adaptive sync features for smoother and tear-free gaming, TUV Rheinland certification which ensures it doesn’t tire your eyes, and Pantone Validated for color accuracy making it suitable for content creators.

Price for ASUS ROG Zephyrus Duo 16

For those who are interested, the ASUS Zephyrus Duo 16 (GX650) is already available in Indonesia. The highest variant with AMD Ryzen 9 6900HX, 32GB RAM, 2TB SSD and Nvidia GeForce RTX 3080 Ti costs USD $5,206. The model with AMD Ryzen 9 6900HX, 16GB RAM, 1TB SSD and Nvidia GeForce RTX 3070Ti costs USD $4,056. The cheapest with an AMD Ryzen 7 6800H processor, 16GB RAM, 1TB SSD and an Nvidia GeForce RTX 3060 graphics card costs USD $2,704.
