Adjusting the screen brightness level is certainly one of the skills that computer users need to learn in order to use the device more comfortably.

With the right brightness level, the screen display will be clearly visible so that users can read text, edit images, watch videos, and play games without the need to spend extra energy squinting.

Users also don’t need to feel pain when staring at a computer screen due to too bright, glare, and eye-catching light which generally can actually obscure the ability of vision.

However, everyone has their own preferences in this matter. The brightness level of the computer screen that fits from one user to another can be different.

Moreover, on the other hand, this preference can also change to match the ambient light conditions. In general, users will feel more comfortable with low brightness levels in dark environments and high brightness in very bright places.

Dimming or increasing the brightness of a computer screen is fortunately very easy. Every operating system is generally equipped with a default setting to do so.

How to Adjust Computer Screen Brightness

Microsoft Windows 10

  1. Click the Action Center (the speech bubble icon) which is usually located in the lower right corner

2. Tap on Expand option if needed

3. Slide the Brightness Slider (sun icon) right or left as needed

To dim the screen, you can slide the Brightness Slider to the left. Meanwhile, to make the display brighter, you can pull it in the opposite direction.

Brightness Slider support will generally be available on computers with the Windows 10 operating system version 1903. If you don’t find it, you can go to the Settings > System > Display section .

On the screen settings page, you can change the screen brightness level by sliding the slider in the Brightness and color section which has the same conditions as the previous steps.

If you still can’t find the screen brightness setting on that page, you can try updating the driver for Display adapters first according to the brand and type of device.

But please note, this option may not be available for external monitor use . If so, you can usually adjust the screen brightness by using the buttons provided.

Apple MacOS

  1. Click the Apple menu
  2. Go to the System Preferences section
  3. Open the Displays menu
  4. Tap the Display option
  5. Adjust brightness using the built- in Brightness Slider

Adjusting the screen brightness level can also be done on a MacOS system computer in the same way as above. But if you want it faster, you can also do it by using the function keys with the sun icon on the keyboard.

On some Mac devices that already support the Touch Bar feature, you can use the menu in the Control Strip to dim or increase the screen brightness level.

Linux Ubuntu

  1. Tap the System Menu (Wi-Fi, Speaker, and Battery icon) which is generally in the upper right corner of the screen
  2. Look for the Brightness Slider menu (sun icon)
  3. Slide the button to adjust the brightness as needed

In addition to using the above method, those of you who use Linux Ubuntu can also adjust the screen brightness by using the Power panel. To do this, open the Activities menu , type the word “ power ” (without the quotes), select the Power menu that appears, then change the Screen brightness slider menu .

The three methods of adjusting the screen brightness may appear with different views and locations. If you want to get the same experience, you need to update your operating system to the latest version.
