Huawei Band 4e Review

Trends in a healthy lifestyle have continued to increase during the pandemic. As a result, a wide variety of wearable devices such as fitness bracelets and smart watches are starting to get a lot of interest. Seeing this opportunity Huawei launched the Huawei Band 4e. Intrigued by the various features of this smart fitness bracelet? Check out the reviews as follows.

Huawei Band 4e design

Huawei Band 4e comes with a very minimalist design. The design is relatively standard like a fitness bracelet in general. Even so, the weight is very light and very comfortable to use.

The silicone rubber material is also of high quality. At least, as long as it is used daily, it doesn’t cause allergic reactions such as itching or redness for those of us who have very sensitive skin.

One plus point of the Band 4e is its unique design. Putting forward the concept of dual mode Band 4e comes with a modular design that can be used on the wrist and on the foot. This concept has never been found in any fitness bracelet.

Its modular design allows the user to remove the Band 4e module from the silicone rubber strap as a fitness band. For use on the feet, Huawei provides a plastic case with a clamp that can be attached to the shoelace.

Huawei Band 4e Module

When detached from the strap, the Band 4e module is indeed very small. The screen panel carries PMOLED technology measuring 0.5 inches. This screen is colorless and does not yet support touch features. Unlike the previous Huawei Band 4 which comes with a larger color screen and is equipped with touch features. The screen is also not reinforced with a layer of Corning Gorilla. Even so, for everyday use the screen is still strong enough to withstand minor impacts.

Touch control is only supported via a tiny box at the bottom of the screen panel. For navigation, users can only rely on this touch panel to move menus and enter the settings menu. The touch panel is very responsive to the touch of a finger.

Adopting the Band 4e modular charging design, the Band 4e relies on a USB docking. This makes charging the battery less practical. The USB docking size is also relatively small. So, it is mandatory to be vigilant to save it so that the docking is not lost.

Apart from its unique modular design, another advantage of the Band 4e is its already waterproof design. The 4e band is water resistant to the 5ATM standard. Can be invited to swim and don’t have to worry about being invited to exercise in any weather conditions.

Huawei Band 4e features

The Huawei Band 4e does not carry the complete features of the Huawei Band 4. As a fitness bracelet the Band 4e offers the notification functions of a smartphone and a very standard fitness monitor. This includes the ability to monitor activity, calories burned, reminders to move, number of steps, distance traveled to the ability to monitor sleep patterns.

This fitness bracelet is also not equipped with a heart rate sensor. The SpO2 feature to monitor blood oxygen levels, which is a trend in fitness bracelets and smart watches, is also lacking. Also in this fitness bracelet there is no support for various Sports modes.

But, it’s a different story when switching to foot or underfoot mode. In leg mode the Huawei Band 4e can be relied on for three types of sports, namely running, basketball and cycling. It is very specific, but its ability for these three sports is above the average fitness bracelet in general.

To support these sports activities, the Huawei Band 4e relies on the six degrees of freedom motion sensor feature. This sensor is very sophisticated with the ability to detect and analyze every leg movement. All of this analysis data can then be seen in the Huawei Health application on the smartphone. For compatibility, the Huawei Band 4e can connect to Android and iOS smartphones. Even so, all of its features can be optimized when connected to a smartphone with Android OS.

Huawei Band 4e performance

As a fitness bracelet the Band 4e can function to monitor daily activities, monitor sleep patterns and receive notification messages from smartphones. Its ability to track activities is quite accurate. If you sit too much the Band 4e can send you reminders to move. He can support sports activities such as walking or running with the ability to measure the number of steps, calories and distance traveled.

In our opinion, the Huawei Band 4e excels in foot mode or underfoot mode. When installed in the shoes, all the potential and sophistication of this Band 4e can only be enjoyed. Switching to underfoot mode can also run automatically.

The first test we used Band 4e for running sports. As we mentioned earlier, relying on the Band 4e six degrees of freedom motion sensor feature is able to detect and analyze every leg movement.

Band 4e can record and analyze 7 motion metrics while running which includes foot strike pattern, ground contact time, landing impact, eversion excursion, swing angle, cadence and step length. Band 4e can also record the user’s three-foot-strike pattern, namely the front, middle, and heel while running.

That way we can find out whether we are running with the correct posture and movements or not. All the data and analysis it records can be seen in the statistics that appear in the Huawei Health application. Huawei also provides complete and detailed information regarding each of these analyzes. So, it is very reliable to improve running performance and minimize the risk of injury.

Meanwhile, when used to play basketball, Band 4e can analyze jumps, jump height, time and track basic movements including running speed, distance, steps and much more.

The last test is a sports bicycle. Between basketball and running, we do cycling the most. When used cycling Band 4e can analyze cadence while cycling. For bicycles, knowing cadence is important enough to know the rhythm speed of each pedal rotation. With the right cadence, cyclists can find out a more efficient cycling style so they don’t get tired easily. His ability to analyze Cadence is also very satisfying. Approaching the cadence sensors we are used to cycling. It should be noted that to take advantage of this Cadence feature you have to start a sports activity from the Huawei Health app.

Another advantage of the Band 4e is its ability to connect to other Huawei wearable ecosystems. This means that the Huawei Band 4e can be used directly together with Huawei smart watches and Huawei Band fitness bracelets such as Band 4. This makes the analysis of sports activities more complete and in-depth.

We happen to be users of the Huawei Watch GT 2e smartwatch. When used together Band 4e is used in underfoot mode and will perform all its functions as we have mentioned above. Meanwhile, the Huawei Watch GT 2e smart watch on the hand will perform its function of recording heart rate and measuring oxygen levels in the blood.

Through all the data collected, we can find out through the Huawei Health application how the development and performance during exercise. Most importantly we can find out the body’s recovery time before doing the next sports activity. That way you can avoid the fatigue of the effects of excessive exercise.

Huawei Band 4eM battery

The battery life of the Huawei Band 4e is also quite durable. For a single recharge, the battery can be used for up to 2 weeks for normal use. So, it can be used every day without worrying that the battery will run out quickly.

Conclusion

The Huawei Band 4e is not just an ordinary fitness bracelet. With a selling price of US $24, it should be recognized that the Band 4e competes with other fitness bracelets that offer color screens or carry a variety of sports modes and more complete features. Its features as a fitness bracelet are relatively standard. Even so, the underfoot mode it carries and the long-lasting battery life make this fitness bracelet very special. Above average of any fitness bracelet. This makes it ideal for running, basketball and cycling enthusiasts or athletes.

Huawei Band 4e Suitable for:

Running, basketball and bicycle enthusiasts: Underfoot mode allows the user to know many things. The data analysis is also very complete and detailed. That way, it can be a guide to understand good and correct technique when doing the three sports activities.

Student / Student: With its relatively cheap selling price this fitness bracelet is also suitable for students and college students who are looking for a minimalist yet functional fitness bracelet.

Active lifestyle activists: During a pandemic everyone is competing to live a healthy life. Well, Band 4e is suitable for anyone from housewives to office workers who are WFH. The feature of monitoring daily activities and reminders to move is very reliable to encourage an active lifestyle.
