Huawei has a pretty interesting lineup in the ultraportable laptop category. One of them that just launched in Indonesia is the Huawei Matebook 14s. Carrying a premium appearance, this laptop is still equipped with powerful hardware to support a variety of jobs.
Curious as to what the advantages are? Come on, just look at the reviews:
Slim and easy to carry on the go
With prices reaching 16 million rupiah, it is natural that the design sector is the main attraction of the Matebook 14s. The design quality is very good and it really feels like an expensive laptop because it uses aluminum material. Suitable for those of you who want to look more elegant when meeting with colleagues or clients.
The body of the Matebook 14s is also fairly slim. It is about 16.7mm thick and weighs only 1.43 kilograms. At first glance the sensation it offers is similar to the MacBook. These thin and light dimensions certainly make the Matebook 14s comfortable to travel with.
Please note that the color variant in our review article this time is Space Gray. The tone is calm. But if you want to be different, the unique Spruce Green color variant might be an option.
Once opened you will find a touch pad which is quite large in size. This laptop keyboard is one of the parts that I like the most, because the experience I get is quite enjoyable to support my work which is dominant in typing. The key travel is 1.5mm and has been equipped with a backlit.
In addition, the Matebook 14s also has a fingerprint sensor that is positioned together with the power button. Between the F6 and F7 keys there is a dedicated key to access Microsoft Voice Typing.
Then, what about ports? Minimal, but still fairly decent for the size of a thin laptop. You are presented with two USB Type-C 3.2 Gen 2 ports, HDMI, 3.5mm Audio Jack, and 1 USB 3.2 Gen 1 port. While the wireless connectivity sector has WiFi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac/ax and Bluetooth 5.1. For your information, the RAM on the Matebook 14s is onboard, so there is no option for upgrading.
The Huawei Matebook 14s has a 14.2-inch IPS touch screen with a resolution of 2.5K aka 2520 x 1680 pixels. Even more interesting, this screen has a 3:2 aspect ratio and has a refresh rate of up to 90Hz. But as far as my experience, you have to enable this 90Hz mode manually.
You could say that the Matebook 14s screen is already quite good in its class. Besides being bright and having a brightness level of up to 400 nits, the screen already supports 100 percent sRGB. Suitable for you, professional content creators, as well as those who like to watch movies.
Meanwhile, from the audio sector, the Matebook 14s with 4 speakers powered by Huawei Sound is able to provide sound quality that is quite powerful. For users who often conduct online meetings, the Matebook 14s is supported by four internal microphones that can capture sound from up to 5 meters away, and filter out ambient noise with its AI-powered noise canceling.
Coupled with Personal Voice Enhancement, the user’s voice will sound clearer while automatically reducing annoying background noise.
Agile performance, can be used for gaming
Turning to performance, the Huawei Matebook 14s is armed with an Intel Core i5-11300H processor with an Intel Iris Xe GPU, 8GB LPDDR4X RAM, and a 512GB NVMe PCIe SSD. The combination that I think is quite tempting, even though the memory cannot be upgraded.
For everyday use, the Matebook 14s is able to provide fast performance. All standard work, such as browsing with multiple tabs, video conferencing, to the more difficult ones, such as video editing, can still be well facilitated. Even in power saving mode, I still feel this laptop provides agile performance.
Interestingly, the combination of the Core i5-11300H with Iris Xe makes the Matebook 14s still ideal for gaming. I often use this laptop to play Valorant games with 2K resolution and Low graphics settings. As a result, the game can run smoothly with a frame rate range of 80-90 fps. No overheating or throttling issues.
Then, what about the battery? Economical! I used it for a full day’s work (about 9 hours), and the battery hasn’t run out yet. Of course, these results can be different, depending on the style of use of each user. The Matebook 14s also supports 90W fast charging which can charge the battery to 100 percent in just 1 hour.
For additional information, the Huawei MateBook 14s also provides a feature that is able to connect various devices from Huawei via HUAWEI Share and Mobile Apps Engine. You can directly control the smartphone screen on the laptop or drag and drop files from the smartphone to the laptop without the need to use any cables.
There is also a Mobile Apps Engine that allows several mobile applications for smartphones to run on the Huawei MateBook 14s. In addition, this laptop also supports flexible multi-device usage experiences to various other devices such as smartphones, tablets, monitors, and so on.
As a premium laptop, I think the Huawei Matebook 14s is quite successful in meeting expectations. Behind its elegant and sleek design, this laptop can provide steady and stable performance, as well as a long battery life.
