In addition to inaugurating the presence of the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus, Apple also introduced its newest duo of Pro models, namely the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max. Unlike the standard and Plus versions, these two devices appear more special with a new feature called Dynamic Island and also the A16 chipset.

Features of iPhone 14 Pro and 14 Pro Max

Dynamic Island is a new model of ‘bangs’ that makes the iPhone Pro version look different from a series of previous generation iPhone series. The shape is oval and no longer blends with the top bezel of the phone. Its main function is almost the same, namely to accommodate the selfie camera, but it is designed to have an extra role.

Dynamic Island makes the top screen of the phone look dynamic. Users can take advantage of these bangs to display animations from incoming notifications. When the iPhone 14 Pro Series receives a notification, Dynamic Island will change its shape to be wider and present animations according to the application.

iPhone 14 Pro and 14 Pro Max adopt the Super Retina XDR screen which has been upgraded so that it is 2 times brighter than the iPhone 13 Pro. For the first time this screen supports Always-On Display, a feature that has actually been around for a long time on mid-range to flagship Android smartphones.

Unlike the iPhone 14 and 14 Plus, which still use last year’s chipset, Apple has implanted a new generation chipset in this Pro model duo, the A16 Bionic. Using 4nm fabrication, this chipset has 2-core high performance and 4-core efficient. There’s also a 5-core GPU with 50 percent better memory bandwidth and a new 16-core Neural Engine.

In addition to a fiercer performance, the presence of the A16 Bionic is believed to be able to improve photographic computing, for example supporting the Photonic Engine to apply Deep Fusion with a faster process, and improving low-light performance. Action Mode on the Pro version can also be recorded in 4K resolution at 24fps or 30fps.

Regarding camera configuration, the iPhone 14 Pro and 14 Pro Max rely on a 48 MP main sensor with a size of 65 percent larger, quad-pixel, and OIS. The camera is also optimized for the ProRAW feature. There’s also a 3x telephoto camera that can shoot 4K video without digital zoom. While on the front, Apple provides an f/1.9 selfie camera with autofocus.

Price and availability

The iPhone 14 Pro starts at US$999, while the iPhone 14 Pro Max starts at US$1099.
