Compact minimalist design

Lenovo hasn’t made many design updates to the IdeaPad Slim 1. The IdeaPad Slim-Series’ signature minimalist design has been maintained. The top cover of the body appears plain. Leaving only the small Lenovo logo on the upper left edge of the body. The good news is that there are two color options to choose from, namely Cloud Gray and Sand.

The compact body design is one of the advantages of this laptop. The body dimensions are 325.3 x 216.5 x 17.9 mm. The body, which is only 17.9 mm thick, is also thin. In fact, if we look at it, it is slightly thinner than its sibling IdeaPad Slim 3/3i, which is about 19.9 mm thick. Meanwhile, its weight is in the range of 1.38 kg.

With this body design, the IdeaPad Slim 1 saves a lot of space in the bag. We can take it to travel easily anywhere.

Fortunately, the slim body doesn’t sacrifice the connectivity sector. The port it carries is complete. On the left and right sides of the body you can find one USB 2.0 port, one USB 3.2 Gen 1 port, one USB-C 3.2 Gen 1 port (support data transfer), one HDMI 1.4b port, a memory card reader slot and a 3.5mm combo audio port. From the connectivity port, it’s quite unfortunate that the available USB-C ports don’t support the Power Delivery feature.

The screen is less bright

In the screen sector, the IdeaPad Slim 1 carries a 14-inch screen panel with Full HD resolution. The screen design is quite contemporary with relatively thin frames on all four sides. The screen uses a TN panel that is common in its price class. So, the color output on the screen is less brilliant. Viewing angles and screen brightness levels are also limited. The maximum brightness of the screen is only 220 nits.

But, overall with Full HD resolution, the display of images and text can look quite sharp. Screen brightness is also still okay for indoor use. This compromise is understandable. At least, as long as the screen is used, it is still sufficient to support our daily productivity. Like for example typing documents, browsing and occasionally watching video content on YouTube.

Adequate performance in its price class

As the first laptop in Indonesia to be powered by an AMD 7020 series processor, the IdeaPad Slim 1 is indeed enough to make us curious. The processor used is AMD Ryzen 3 7320U. The processor is supported by 8GB RAM and SSD storage space with options up to 512GB. One thing that is quite unfortunate is the RAM used onboard. So, there is no upgrade option. However, the AMD Ryzen 3 7320U on this laptop already supports LPDDR5 RAM and PCIe 4.0 × 4 NVMe SSD. Quite an interesting option in its price class.

AMD Ryzen 3 7320U carries a 6nm fabrication with Zen 2 architecture. In the graphics sector, there is support for the integrated GPU Radeon 610M with RDNA 2 architecture. The IdeaPad Slim 1 benchmark results are as follows:

According to AMD, this processor was created for daily laptop devices. That way, users can get a balance between performance and battery life.

Our experience while using the IdeaPad Slim 1 was satisfactory. The only obstacle we encountered on this laptop was the keyboard, which was not very comfortable to type on. The keyboard is also not equipped with a backlit lamp.

But, for the performance offered is quite in line with expectations. Entering the price class of 6 million, the IdeaPad Slim 1 is classified as versatile for standard daily computing. Running office applications, browsing, to video conferencing feels quite rushed. Its performance also turns out to be fast enough to meet the needs of light photo and video editing. However, considering that the screen uses a TN panel, it is not ideal for this purpose.

In fact, the Radeon 610M integrated GPU can still be invited to play games that don’t require extra graphics performance. We tried running competitive class games like Valorant by selecting Extreme Performance mode on the Lenovo Vantage. As a result, at Low graphics settings and HD resolution we can still play comfortably at an average of 70 fps-100 fps.

Battery life is also not bad. Although with a capacity of 42Wh it is relatively small. But, still enough to accompany us to work almost all day. With a scheme using a screen brightness level of around 70%, connected to WiFi, activating the Windows battery saver mode and Intelligent cooling on the Lenovo Vantage, the IdeaPad Slim 1 can accompany us to type documents and browse for up to 7 hours.

Conclusion

As the first laptop with AMD Ryzen 3 7320U, the IdeaPad Slim 1 managed to raise the standard for laptops in its class. Indeed, this laptop does not have many features. But, the overall performance proved to be reliable. The design is also compact, making it easy to carry anywhere. With prices starting at USD $423, the presence of the IdeaPad Slim 1 is clearly a very attractive option in its price class. This laptop can be an option for users who have limited funds and need a reliable laptop to support everyday productivity.

Lenovo IdeaPad Slim 1 14AMN7 is suitable for:

Student/Student: The performance is adequate for students to students to do the task. As a means of entertainment such as watching videos and playing light games, they are also still capable.

Office worker or online shop entrepreneur: Battery life is quite average for the latest laptop category. However, with a compact body design, this laptop will be easy to carry with you to work anywhere. The performance is also sufficient for various Office applications.
