The chipset from MediaTek has now become the brain for Chromebook devices in the entry segment. However, with the latest Kompanio 1380 chipset, MediaTek will raise the bar for Chromebooks. No longer for the entry chipset segment, it is prepared to target the premium segment.
Features of MediaTek Kompanio 1380
The MediaTek Kompanio 1380 is an octa-core chipset with 4 x ARM Cortex-A78 CPUs running at 3 GHz and 4 more efficient CPU cores. The graphics sector is entrusted to a 5-core ARM Mali-G57 chip and supports 2133 MHz LPDDR4X RAM users. With these specifications, the MediaTek Kompanio 138 offers increased performance that is more powerful and more energy efficient than the previous MediaTek Kompanio 828.
This chipset also has artificial intelligence support through the multi-core MediaTek APU 3.0 AI (Artificial Intelligence) processor. According to MediaTek, this AI processor is useful for controlling camera features and voice calls, as well as optimizing battery power. This chip will also support the AV1 video codec and is compatible with the use of up to 2 monitors of 4K 60 Hz resolution. Alternatively, it can also support a 3 monitor configuration with one 4K 60 Hz monitor and two 4K/30 Hz monitors.
Other features MediaTek Kompanio 1380 will support WiFi 6E and Bluetooth 5.0. This processor is also equipped with a DSP (Digital Signal Processor) to accommodate voice command features that are compatible with virtual assistants.

The first manufacturer to use this chipset is Acer via the Chromebook Spin 513 . Prices for the Acer Chromebook Spin 513 start at $600 and will be available in the second quarter of 2022.
