Some time ago MediaTek announced the Dimensity 9000 5G flagship class chipset . The presence of this chipset is also accompanied by another new chipset, namely the Pentonic 2000.

Features of MediaTek Pentonic 2000

The difference is, MediaTek Pentonic 2000 is a chipset that is prepared for smart TVs. Meanwhile, Dimensity is a mobile chipset for mobile or tablet devices.

According to Mediatek, the Pentonic 2000 will become the new standard for its chipsets for Smart TVs. This chipset supports 8K video resolution with a refresh rate of up to 120 Hz. Or, for gaming monitors it can be up to 144 Hz. In addition, there is also support for Dolby Vision HDR technology and Dolby Atmos audio.

As the brain for the smart TV Pentonic 2000 has been equipped with artificial intelligence technology. The Pentonic 2000 is also the first chipset to support VVC decoding or H.266. VVC or H.266 is a new video compression standard for streaming with smaller file sizes and higher quality images.

Other features include Picture-in-Picture and Picture-by-Picture for streaming concurrent content from several different sources. This means, Pentonic 2000 will bring support for various smart TV operating system platforms.

Mediatek Pentonic 2000 Availability

The presence of Pentonic 2000 will indeed be a breath of fresh air in the audio visual world in the future. The reason is, manufacturers are now also starting to compete to bring smart TVs with resolutions above 4K. 4K content is slowly but surely also gaining popularity and starting to dominate on various video streaming services.

MediaTek has not revealed which manufacturers will start adopting this chipset into their smart TVs. However, the Pentonic 2000 is slated to make its global debut on smart TVs starting in 2022.
