OPPO A76 Review

One thing that attracted me the most to try this phone is its status as the first A-series device from OPPO that is equipped with SuperVOOC charging technology.

But, does OPPO A76 only rely on fast charging capabilities? Well , if you’re curious, just take a look at the reviews!

Charming OPPO Glow
Just like most OPPO mid-range phones today, the A76 has a back cover with the charming OPPO Glow technology. Incidentally, the variant that I tried is Glowing Black, so the color gradation is not as luxurious as Glowing Blue. This black color variant looks dark but still has an elegant side thanks to its glowing effect when exposed to light.

Maybe there are those who don’t know, OPPO Glow is not only about finishing that is pleasing to the eye, but also serves to protect the back cover from scratches. In addition, this layer is not easy to stick to finger marks so it is not easy to look dirty.

OPPO A76 is a smartphone which means it is splash resistant. You don’t have to worry if you’re outdoors and it suddenly rains, or when your phone spills drinking water.

To be operated with one hand, it fits in the hand with a thickness of 8.4mm and a weight of 189 grams. In addition, the OPPO Glow finishing feels comfortable when in contact with the skin. Not slippery, but not rough either.

The fingerprint sensor is on the side and is attached to the power button. At the bottom, you’ll find a USB Type-C port, a 3.5mm audio jack, and a speaker jack. There are three available slots, two nano-SIM and one specifically dedicated to microSD. In the sales package, OPPO A76 provides a soft case with a quality that I think is quite good, and the screen has been installed with extra protection.

90Hz screen

The smartphone, which is the successor to the A74, relies on a 6.56-inch HD screen with a 90Hz refresh rate and 180Hz touch sampling. The screen-to-body ratio reaches 89.9 percent, which means the bezels are thin enough to make it more satisfying to enjoy content.

With a high refresh rate, the movement of the image on the screen will look smoother. While the 180Hz touch sampling provides good responsiveness and is very useful in usage scenarios such as playing games. What might be a bit unfortunate is that the resolution is not yet FHD +. However, on the other hand, HD + resolution makes performance lighter and more power efficient.

With HD + resolution, the actual sharpness of the OPPO A76 screen is still pretty good. The brightness level is just standard and still ideal for use in the hot sun. The color presentation itself is quite pleasing to the eye. A little about audio, the A76 is only equipped with mono speakers at the bottom, not stereo.

Dual rear camera

OPPO A76 offers a dual rear camera consisting of a 13 MP f/2.2 main sensor and a 2 MP portrait to help produce the bokeh effect. The absence of an ultra-wide camera is a bit unfortunate considering the price of this phone is already above 3 million rupiah. As for those who like selfies, OPPO provides an 8 MP f/2.0 camera at the front.

The photos are still fairly good in ideal light conditions. In terms of detail, color reproduction, and dynamic range are in a safe level although in fact they can be further improved. The color of the photo tends to be natural.

If you activate the AI mode, the software will automatically raise the colors to be richer, although in some conditions it produces photos that are far from the original color, for example in indoor shooting as in the example below: (first photo with AI, second photo using Pro mode or manually)

Expert Mode

The presence of a portrait camera here in my opinion is quite helpful in producing a bokeh effect with a neat background separation. Meanwhile, for low-light shooting, Night Mode can provide bright photos and minimal noise, but with decreased sharpness.

For video recording, OPPO A76 provides a maximum resolution of 1080p 30fps. Actually, my initial expectation was 60fps. It should be noted, this smartphone is not yet supported by EIS so the video is less stable when recording while walking.

Snapdragon 680 and SuperVOOC

From the performance sector, the OPPO A76 is armed with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 680 chipset which uses 6nm fabrication. So besides being fast, this chipset offers 20 percent better power efficiency than the previous generation.

Snapdragon 680 is equipped with a CPU speed of up to 2.4GHz, and an Adreno 610 GPU. For memory, you will find 6 GB of RAM supported by the RAM Expansion feature to increase its capacity to 5 GB, bringing the total to 11 GB. The internal storage itself is 128 GB.

For daily use the performance of this phone is very adequate. It’s agile to browse from one app to another, and fun to multitask. When referring to the benchmark results, the performance is slightly above the phones equipped with Snapdragon 662 or 665.

The gaming experience that I feel is quite pleasant. Indeed, the A76 is not the fastest phone in its price class. But at least, I can still play games like Mobile Legends and PUBG Mobile smoothly on certain graphics settings.

How about the battery? 5,000 mAh. Standard capacity but feels special thanks to the excellent power management of ColorOS 11. It’s easy to go all day with OPPO A76 without having to charge it in the afternoon or evening. In fact, usually the duration of my use reaches 1.5 or 2 days if it’s not too intense.

Well , the highlight is definitely the 33W SuperVOOC technology, because this is the first time it’s available on OPPO A series phones. Charging for 5 minutes allows users to make phone calls for up to about 3.5 hours, or access YouTube for 2 hours 10 minutes. Even to get to 50 percent only takes 31 minutes. Though the battery capacity is large, 5,000 mAh.

The secret, OPPO embeds a 2 cell battery system, each with a capacity of 2,500 mAh. That way the charging process becomes much more efficient. Logically, compared to charging one 5,000 mAh battery, it would certainly be faster to charge two 2,500 mAh batteries simultaneously.

Conclusion

In conclusion, the OPPO A76 must enter the shopping cart if you are looking for a 3 million phone with a stylish design, long battery life, and fast charging support. The existence of SuperVOOC technology here is indeed a differentiator that makes the A76 look tempting.

For those who are interested, the OPPO A76 is sold at a price of US $238, and can be purchased offline through shops that sell OPPO smartphone devices and OPPO Stores throughout Indonesia, as well as online through the OPPO Store application on OPPO smartphones and OPPO Official Store located on the leading e-commerce network in Indonesia.

Pros of OPPO A76:

  • Stylish design with OPPO Glow
  • Quite slim and comfortable to hold
  • The first A Series to support 33W SuperVOOC
  • Long battery life, up to 2 days (depending on usage style)
  • 90Hz screen
  • Power-saving 6nm Snapdragon 680
  • There is a RAM Expansion feature up to 5 GB

Disadvantages of OPPO A76:

  • HD+ screen resolution only
  • No ultra-wide camera
  • The photos can still be improved again via software upgrade
  • Mono speakers
  • It will be more interesting if it is equipped with NFC

OPPO A76 is suitable for:

  • Students: Its long battery life and balanced performance make the A76 suitable for young people with a variety of activities.
  • Employees: SuperVOOC technology is the answer for busy employees who don’t have much time to charge their phones. The RAM Expansion feature also helps when multitasking.
  • Field workers: Stylish phones can still be suitable for field workers. As long as the battery is durable and fast charging like the A76.
  • Housewives: OPPO A76 is suitable for housewives who need a cellphone for communication, social media, and photos with children.
