OPPO A95 Review

OPPO Glow Design and IPX4 certification

If the Reno series has Reno Glow, the A95 offers a Glow Design that looks no less charming. Please note that the A95 is the first member of the A-series from OPPO to carry a design with a double matte finish like this.

In essence, OPPO Glow allows the back cover of the A95 not to get dirty easily by fingerprints and is scratch resistant. In addition, this design also gives a shiny color appearance when exposed to light, especially in the Glowing Rainbow Silver variant. OPPO also provides another color, namely Glowing Starry Black.

The dimensions of the OPPO A95 are quite ideal for one-handed operation. It is a slim phone with a thickness of 7.95mm and a weight of around 175 grams. The combination that also makes it easy to put in a trouser pocket. But because the surface is very smooth, the back cover is a bit slippery. The easiest solution is to install a softcase so that the grip sensation is more stable.

Interestingly, although in terms of the exterior it looks beautiful, the A95 was designed as a tough phone with high durability. This device has gone through various quality performance tests which include 10,000 plug-in and plug-out tests for the 3.5mm earphone jack, 500,000 push tests for the Power on/off button, and 20,000 USB plug-in and plug-out tests that last approx. 13.6 years.

The OPPO A95 has also passed 150,000 times the Volume button press test, so it can be used for up to 8.2 years. The other two extreme scale tests for the OPPO A95 are 28,000 drops of 10cm high and 14 days of testing under a high temperature of 65 degrees Celsius and a humidity of 90%RH.

Even this phone also has IPX4 certification which means it is resistant to normal water splashes. Those of you who often do outdoor activities don’t have to worry if one day they get caught in a rainy day.

Back to the design, the volume adjustment button is on the left, while the power button is on the right. The power button does not function as a fingerprint sensor at the same time because OPPO has embedded the technology in the screen. Yes, there is already an In-Display Fingerprint Unlock feature.

At the bottom you will find the USB-C port which is adjacent to the speaker hole and the 3.5mm audio jack port. The A95 has three slots which means you don’t have to sacrifice a second SIM card if you want to install a microSD.

Discussing a little about the sales package, the OPPO A95 comes with a softcase and has a scratch-resistant installed on the screen. In addition, the default charger has 33W which is suitable to support the charging technology optimally.

Beautiful AMOLED screen

The OPPO A95 is equipped with a 6.43-inch AMOLED screen with Full HD + resolution. In the upper left corner, this screen has a small punch hole to accommodate the selfie camera. The bezel is also fairly thin so that it is able to present a screen-to-body ratio of up to 90.8 percent.

Just like some of the latest OPPO phones, the A95 screen is also supported by All-day AI Eye Care which consists of AI Smart Backlight and DC Dimming. This feature will ensure that your eyes remain comfortable and don’t tire quickly even if you stare at the screen for a long time and in various lighting conditions.

For everyday use, we have no complaints about the OPPO A95 screen. Images are displayed sharp with colors that are also pleasing to the eye. And because it’s an AMOLED screen, of course there’s an Always-On Display feature. One thing that might be a bit unfortunate is that the refresh rate is not yet 90Hz like most of its competitors in the equivalent price range.

As for audio, the A95 still relies on mono speakers, not stereo. On the plus side, these speakers can produce a loud and powerful sound. Solid enough to accompany playing games or watching videos.

Camera is okay for photos and videos

OPPO calls the A95 an ideal phone for various types of users, from young people to MSMEs. The ability of the camera is promised to be able to facilitate the needs of businesses that focus on online platforms. Well , if you want to sell online, you definitely need a device to make product photos and videos.

The OPPO A95 is armed with a 48-megapixel main camera accompanied by a 2-megapixel depth sensor and a 2-megapixel macro camera. This camera is supported by features such as Multiple Filters which provides 15 preset filter options, AI Scene Enhancement to optimize color, saturation, and brightness in photos, as well as Night Mode. For those who like selfies, there is a 16 MP camera in front.

The photos from the A95 main camera are quite good, especially when you take pictures with adequate light conditions. The detail captured is high, the color reproduction is slightly mature, and the dynamic range is quite good for its price class. Selfies are the same, there’s no problem as long as the light is right.

In terms of videography, it’s actually still okay. Availability of EIS and Steady Video features are very helpful to create stable videos even if you are shooting while moving. Unfortunately, a similar feature is not available on the front camera.

In addition, the maximum resolution for recording video with the main camera and the A95 selfie camera is also still limited to 1080p 30fps only. Can’t do 60fps, let alone 4K. But if the need is for social media or showing off merchandise on an e-commerce platform, we believe the camera’s capabilities are sufficient. Most importantly, prepare properties that are relevant to your product and take advantage of natural lighting from the sun. You can also edit videos quickly and easily through its built-in features.

One thing we note is the absence of an ultra-wide camera. For some users, the wide-angle camera will be used more often than the macro.

RAM Expansion to support multitasking

OPPO A95 is armed with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 662 chipset. The default RAM is 8 GB, but can be increased through the RAM Expansion feature up to 13 GB. A feature that will be useful for you multitasking fans who often open many applications at once. Storage? 128GB. Standard capacity for its price class. If it’s still not enough, you can add a microSD.

How is it performing? As far as we tried: smooth! The Snapdragon 662 might look a bit behind the other 3 million phones. But with the optimal software mix through ColorOS 11.1, the performance presented is still agile. The secret is in the System Booster technology.

For gaming it’s still smooth. Even so, it is undeniable that the A95 will be overwhelmed when handling heavy games like Genshin Impact. Mobile Legends is safe in Ultra settings with active HFR mode. While PUBG Mobile you can run with Smooth-High settings. The frame rate obtained is not high, but still in a comfortable range to play. During gaming, we felt that there was no annoying increase in temperature.

Long battery life, fast charging

Armed with a 5,000 mAh battery, OPPO A95 offers extra endurance to accompany your full day activities. Even if your usage style is not very active, this battery can last up to a maximum of 2 days.

Interestingly, you can activate the Sleep Standby Optimization feature so that it consumes low power when you sleep at night. The next morning when you wake up, the battery doesn’t drain much.

The charging on the A95 battery is already 33W. It takes about 1 hour to charge from 10 percent to full. This smartphone is also equipped with a Battery Guard feature to help protect overnight charging intelligently that is tailored to the user’s habits. There is also Charging Heat Control which will monitor heat dissipation and control the temperature of the device while charging to reduce problems that arise regarding charging safety.

ColorOS 11.1 Features

Based on Android, ColorOS 11.1 adopted by OPPO A95 brings a number of useful features to maximize the experience of daily use. For example FlexDrop, a multitasking feature that can open applications in a resizeable window format.

There is also a Private Safe so that no one else can access your photos, videos, documents, or personal files. For gaming activities, features such as Game Space, Game Assistant, Game Focus Mode, and Bullet Notification will optimize your gaming experience.

Conclusion

Although not a device with the fastest chipset in its price class, OPPO A95 offers a series of advantages that make it unique. Call it Glow Design, extra durability after going through various tests, a waterproof body, to fast charging. We believe that this combination will be more appreciated by most consumers who do not only prioritize the type of chipset.

For those who are interested, the OPPO A95 is sold at a price of Rp. 3,999,000. Pre-orders are open from 18-25 November 2021 through the OPPO Store application, as well as the official OPPO store at Lazada and Shopee. Consumers who place an order during this period will get a bonus in the form of an A95 Audio Ball worth IDR 399,000. The first sale of the OPPO A95 begins November 26, 2021.
