OPPO Find X5 Pro Camera Review

OPPO will soon release its latest flagship smartphone, Find X5 Pro. As we know through the Find X line, a series of new innovations from OPPO can be found. Especially in the camera sector. Call it a pop up camera innovation, the latest periscope camera for telephoto, to a microlens camera for macro photos that recently appeared on the Find X3 Pro.

Well, at the Find X5 Pro OPPO this time presents its first flagship smartphone equipped with the MariSilicon X chip. The Find X5 Pro is also the first Find X line developed together with camera manufacturer Hasselblad. Curious about the camera performance? Check out our test results below.

OPPO Find X5 Pro Camera Configuration

Before discussing further the camera performance, let’s review the camera configuration that the Find X5 Pro brings. This smartphone comes with a triple rear camera configuration.

Among them, the main camera with a 50 megapixel sensor and an F/1.7 lens. The second camera with a 50 megapixel sensor and Ultra Wide F/2.2 lens. Finally, a 2x telephoto F/2.4 camera with a 13 megapixel sensor. On the front, there is a selfie camera with a 32-megapixel sensor.

Yes, OPPO Find X5 Pro is not equipped with a periscope camera. The microlens camera for macro photos introduced in the Find X3 Pro series is also no longer available.

As a result, for some people, the Find X5 Pro camera configuration does look less special. In fact, it’s arguably less up-to-date for the flagship smartphone standards released in 2022, which are mostly equipped with telephoto cameras with zoom capabilities above 5x. The specialty of the OPPO Find X5 Pro is indeed emphasized on the MariSilicon X chip and the camera system that was developed in collaboration with the legendary camera manufacturer, Hasselblad.

Photo results of OPPO Find X5 Pro in bright light conditions

The Marisilikon X chipset with 6nm fabrication developed by OPPO promises to improve the performance and image quality of the camera. Especially in low light conditions for photos and videos. During our use, the performance of the Find X5 Pro camera also feels very fast. Including, autofocus and image processing capabilities in all lighting conditions.

The OPPO Find X5 Pro camera also supports shooting in 10-bit color mode. However, it can only be used in PHOTO and Night modes. The 10-bit color mode allows photos to be produced with more color data. The photo file will be saved in .HEIF format. The advantage is, it will be very useful for users who often do photo editing after the photo is taken.

In bright lighting conditions, the OPPO Find X5 Pro camera is very satisfying. The main camera and his wide angle camera can produce photo shots with excellent contrast, sharpness and detail. The tonal character of the color also looks mature. Some of the photos without the editing process:

For those who want to get photo shots with softer and natural colors, they can shoot in PRO mode. This is where Hasselblad comes into play on the Find X5 Pro. The color tonal configuration in PRO mode is entrusted to Hasselblad relying on Hasselblad Natural Color calibration. In PRO mode you can also shoot in RAW format.

The difference can be seen as follows:

In PRO mode, the feel of Hasselblad gets thicker with the orange shutter button that is the hallmark of Hasselblad cameras. In addition, you are also allowed to manually set ISO, camera shutter speed, EV, focus, and WB.

Interestingly, there is a shooting mode with the XPAN format available. In this mode you can shoot panoramic photos with a 65:25 wide ratio and retro color tones typical of the legendary Hasselblad XPAN film camera. Photos can be taken in black and white or color.

Hasselblad also added three special filter options namely radiance, serenity and emerald with retro color tones. In addition to these three filters, we also find a variety of other color filter options with a total of up to 17 filter options.

The OPPO Find X5 Pro Portrait mode is also very satisfying using the main camera or front camera. The bokeh effect looks very neat and looks natural. The bokeh effect can also be adjusted according to taste.

OPPO Find X5 Pro night photos

Then how is the Marisilikon X Chipset capable of supporting shooting in dim conditions? The Find X5 Pro’s night photography capabilities are quite good.

52061893398_c845d9275a_o

Without the need to use Night mode, photos with the main camera or wide angle camera in low light conditions are still very reliable. Looks sharp and detailed. Control of color and noise at high ISO is also quite good. Without being seen there is an additional effect of sharpening, color and contrast as in Night mode which is sometimes excessive.

We note that without Night mode the camera can still be improved in the future. Especially in the dynamic range sector. Shooting without Night mode the camera seems to prioritize brighter areas. As a result, to balance the exposure of the highlight area or light source, it will look over exposed. Darker areas can even look very dark.

However, this shortcoming can be overcome by shooting in Night mode. Even in very low lighting conditions, Night mode can deliver sharp, bright, more detailed shots and very balanced lighting tonals. The processing time is also very short.

Comparison of night photos with Night mode and without Night mode as follows

It can be seen in Night mode that areas that emit excessive light can be suppressed immediately. So, there are no more over exposed areas. Dark areas are also corrected to be more visible. The addition of the sharpening effect in our opinion is still quite safe and not too excessive. In certain scenarios, especially in very dark conditions, the sharpening effect will indeed look excessive and noise is suppressed aggressively, reducing photo details. This is done in order to get the results of the image that looks brighter and sharper. Like in the following photo

OPPO Find X5 Pro 2x telephoto camera

52061964013_4a3ab95f81_o

To take pictures from a distance, you have to be satisfied with the 2x telephoto camera that it carries. However, the results of the telephoto camera do not disappoint. Although it still can’t compete with the main camera and wide angle camera it carries. At least, the photos still look sharp and detailed at 2x optical zoom settings. At 5x hybrid zoom, the sharpness of the photos starts to decrease slightly. To take even closer pictures, there is a digital zoom option of up to 20x.

Video OPPO Find X5 Pro

In video mode, the OPPO Find X5 Pro camera can record up to 4K resolution at 30 fps/60 fps. You are also allowed to record 240 fps slow motion video in Full HD resolution. Meanwhile, the front camera can record video up to Full HD 30 fps resolution. OPPO also provides video recording options with LOG and HDR formats to make it more flexible for color adjustments when editing videos. In addition, there is also support for the AI Highlight feature.

The video recording from the camera is quite okay. Its SLR-Level 5-Axis Optical Image Stabilization stabilization feature is also very capable. So, you don’t need a smartphone gimbal anymore to get smoother video recordings. This stabilization feature can be used on the main camera and wide angle camera. The telephoto camera does not yet support the stabilization feature. The Ultra Steady Pro feature to reduce shake that is quite extreme is also available. However, it only supports video recording at Full HD 60 fps resolution. The video results are as follows which were edited using the SoLoop application directly on the Find X5 Pro.

Conclusion

The debut of the MariSilicon X chip in the Find X5 Pro managed to answer our curiosity about the sophistication of the chip. Responsive camera performance, shooting in low light conditions are better and faster image processing is quite felt during our use.

It is undeniable, to take pictures and record video duet main camera and wide angle camera with 50 megapixel sensor is very good. The photos look sharp and detailed in almost all lighting conditions. The 2x telephoto camera it carries is also still reliable even though its zoom capability is limited. Meanwhile, the presence of Hasselblad in PRO mode with color filter effects and XPAN mode is enough to provide a more enjoyable shooting experience.

With the MariSilicon X chip and the big name Hasselblad, the OPPO Find X5 Pro is indeed worth waiting for its presence in the Indonesian mobile market. This smartphone is quite potential. If only the camera system was strengthened by a periscope camera or a microlens camera, it would clearly provide added value to fight in the flagship smartphone segment this year.
