Behind the compact body design, the Panasonic Leica DG Summilux 9mm F1.7 carries 12 lens elements in 9 groups. This includes two aspherical lens elements, two low dispersion (ED) lens elements and one Ultra High Refractive Index (UHR) lens element.
Meanwhile, the Panasonic Leica DG Summilux 9mm F1.7 autofocus system carries a high-precision contrast AF autofocus system with a sensor drive. According to Panasonic, the autofocus system is capable of delivering smooth, fast, and quiet performance.

The Leica DG Summilux 9mm F1.7 will also be ideal for videography. Not only is the autofocus performance very quiet, this lens is also designed with a very minimal focus breathing effect. In the manual focus setting, Panasonic has also added linear mode support which is ideal for video capture. In this mode the focus search can be adjusted by the rotation angle of the focus setting ring. Users can choose options from 90 degrees to 360 degrees.
