Qualcomm announced the presence of its latest generation of chipset duo, Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 and Snapdragon 7 Gen 1. The first name is Qualcomm’s most advanced premium mobile platform, while the other offers high-end features for various types of users.

Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 Features

In a press release received by Yang Sophisticated , it was explained that the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 promises an increase both in terms of performance and efficiency compared to the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 series that was launched previously. The performance is claimed to be 10 percent higher, while the power efficiency is 30 percent better.

This chipset is also supported by the latest Snapdragon Sight technology such as 8K HDR video recording, which can load more than 1 billion colors. There is also Snapdragon Smart powered by the 7th generation Qualcomm AI Engine with 20 percent better performance per watt, and enables AI to produce the legendary Leica Leitz bokeh effect.

From the connectivity sector, Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 is equipped with the Snapdragon X65 Modem-RF System which is more power efficient, allowing 5.5 hours longer communication. Meanwhile, Qualcomm FastConnect 6900 offers an advanced 6/6E WiFi and Bluetooth 5.3 experience, including Snapdragon Sound support for CD Lossless audio quality and low latency when playing games.

Just for additional information, Qualcomm Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 still uses 4nm fabrication, but this time not from Samsung but from TSMC. Apart from some of the improvements above, the chipset features are still the same as their predecessors such as support for LPDDR5 RAM (3200MHz) up to 16 GB, UFS 3.1 storage, and a screen up to QHD + 144Hz.

Qualcomm says that phones with Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 are expected to arrive around July-August 2022.

Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 Features

Aimed at the segment one level below, Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 still puts forward a variety of superior technologies, for example Snapdragon Elite Gaming features such as the Adreno Frame Motion Engine to double the frame rate with the same power consumption as the Snapdragon 778G.

This chipset carries a Kryo CPU with speeds of up to 2.4GHz, and an Adreno 662 GPU which is claimed to have 20 percent faster graphics rendering capabilities. For memory, it supports up to 16 GB LPDDR5.

This chipset that supports the use of a Quad HD + screen has a Qualcomm Spectra triple ISP that allows users to shoot from 3 cameras simultaneously, or take one photo with a resolution of 200 MP. There is also 4K HDR support for images with better contrast and sharpness, as well as high brightness levels and deep blacks.

Qualcomm has also embedded the 7th gen AI Engine with Deep Learning Face Detect capability based on 300 facial landmarks, enabling more accurate autofocus even when wearing a mask. Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 also features the 4th generation SnapdragonX62 5G Modem-RF System and FastConnect 6900.

Then, when will Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 be on the market? The OPPO Reno8 Pro will be the first smartphone to adopt this new chipset.
