Qualcomm announced the presence of its newest chipset, named Qualcomm Snapdragon 7+ Gen 2. Compared to the previous generation, of course this SoC offers more powerful performance and even better power efficiency.

Features Qualcomm Snapdragon 7+ Gen 2

Qualcomm explains that the Snapdragon 7+ Gen 2 is armed with a Kryo CPU with a speed of 2.91GHz which has a 50 percent increase in performance from Snapdragon 7 Gen 1, as well as an Adreno GPU which is 2 times faster. Regarding power efficiency, Qualcomm claims an increase of up to 13 percent throughout the system. Snapdragon 7+ Gen 2 is built on TSMC’s 4nm manufacturing process, 64-bit architecture.

Interestingly, for the first time the Snapdragon 7-series uses the Arm Cortex X-series on its CPU cores, the same as those used by the flagship Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 series. The CPU consists of 1 main core based on Arm Cortex X2, 3 cores for performance based on Arm Cortex A710, and 4 cores for efficiency based on Arm Cortex A510.

There are a number of premium features that it carries. Call it Snapdragon Elite Gaming such as Auto Variable Rate Shading (VRS), to optimize power and performance by rendering content focused at full resolution and background scenes at a lower resolution.

Meanwhile Volumetric Rendering adds realism to game scenes with particle graphics such as fog and smoke. There’s also Snapdragon Sound with Qualcomm aptX for stable, delay-free music streaming while playing games.

From the imaging sector, Qualcomm Snapdragon 7+ Gen 2 is equipped with an 18-bit Triple ISP. Users are promised to be able to take better pictures in low light, because this SoC can take 30 pictures and combine the best parts into one photo for brighter, clearer and more colorful results at night. Users can also record 4K HDR videos.

AI performance has also increased 2x with 40% better performance per Watt compared to its predecessor. Qualcomm Snapdragon 7+ Gen 2 enables AI Super Resolution which intelligently enhances gaming scenes or photos for the visual quality of low resolution images (1080p to 4K).

“Today’s release of Snapdragon 7+ Gen 2 illustrates our ability to bring some of the most in-demand flagship features to our Snapdragon-7 series that make them accessible to more people,” said Christopher Patrick, Senior Vice President and General Manager of Mobile. Handsets, Qualcomm Technologies, Inc.

Regarding connectivity, Qualcomm Snapdragon 7+ Gen 2 is supported by the Snapdragon X62 5G Modem-RF System with download speeds of up to 4.4 Gbps. This modem is also claimed to be more power efficient. Finally, there is the Qualcomm® FastConnect 6900 Mobile Connectivity System for Wi-Fi up to 3.6 Gbps.
