The use of  gadgets in children can indeed increase knowledge, but at this time it must be increasingly limited. Apart from the danger of content that they can easily access, the physical gadget is also easily damaged by being bumped and even slammed. Therefore, Huawei released a child-friendly tablet from all sides. The name of the device is Huawei MatePad SE 10.4 Kids Edition.

Hybrid is also the arrival of this one tablet. Of course,  the first reviewers who held these devices in my house were children. This is because the shape of this device really captivates my children who enter their market, namely Elementary Schools. This tablet is also equipped with  a shock-resistant casing.

Actually, this one device is the same as the non-Kids Edition version. The difference is in the addition of  the launcher and  casing . The specifications carried are still the same as the Huawei MatePad SE 10.4. Following are the specifications of the Huawei MatePad SE 10.4 Kids Edition.

At the time of its release, I had asked why ideas like this were only limited to children’s tablets. In fact, some fields of work such as home developers or maybe mining will benefit from  their rubber casing . Unfortunately, Huawei does not provide  its casing separately.

Charger

This is what  the charger looks like in the sales package of the Huawei MatePad SE 10.4 Kids Edition. Unfortunately,  this charger can only charge with 10 watts of power. This certainly has an impact on charging time.

Design

When viewed for the first time, the Huawei MatePad SE 10.4 Kids Edition does have a color that is not for parents. The unit that I got has a green color with  a yellow back stand . Huawei also said that it turns out that this color really attracts children to hold it.

The Huawei MatePad SE 10.4 Kids Edition case is made of food grade silicone rubber  which should be harmless to young children. Of course,  this casing  will withstand the bumps and dings that are usually done by children accidentally. This also makes this children’s tablet not slippery when held. What’s more,  the back stand can be rotated upwards so that it becomes a handle to carry anywhere.

The screen of the Huawei MatePad SE 10.4 Kids Edition has dimensions of 10.4 inches with a resolution of 2000×1200. This IPS screen also has many certifications, such as TÜV Rheinland Low Blue Light and Flicker Free, which keep your eyes from getting damaged quickly. One thing that I regret is that the screen doesn’t use a protector like Gorilla Glass. So, I highly recommend using  tempered glass so it doesn’t crack easily.

When in  landscape position , the volume and power buttons and the microphone are on the top side. On the left you will find the audio  port along with the two left speakers  . To the right can be found two   right  speakers along with a USB-C 3.1 Gen 1 port . On the back there is a camera and a place to put the stylus.

Just like Huawei MatePad SE 10.4, Huawei MatePad SE 10.4 Kids Edition also uses the HarmonyOS 3.0 operating system. This tablet also has a Kids Corner which will be  a launcher that is liked by children because of its design. Because it uses HMS, Huawei MatePad SE 10.4 Kids Edition can search and install applications via Petal Search or AppGallery

Experience Using

Actually, this one tablet was reviewed by my children. This is of course because the design of this tablet is liked by children. But unfortunately, my children don’t like the Kids Corner except for the Painting section because they are over 8 years old. They can easily find all kinds of games in the GameCenter application.

I first introduced Kids Corner to them. Kids Corner is very useful so that parents can protect their children from being addicted to playing  gadgets . This can be done by turning on the functions in the Eye Protection feature. Existing functions are able to make children’s eyes not damaged by blue light and even protected from dizziness.

Dizzy? Yep, this device has notifications when children are playing while sleeping. In addition, when used in a running car, the tablet will issue a notification when the car is running on bumpy asphalt. This small thing will make the child take his eyes off the tablet so he doesn’t get nauseous.

The unit that came to my house has  a stylus included in the sales package. Because my children like to draw and color, they use the Painting section of the Kids Corner quite often. The stylus itself is also comfortable for small hands to use. Of course, this will save paper and crayon costs for your little one’s hobby of drawing.

This app also has time management which will limit playing time. Of course, children should not be given the opportunity to play with unlimited time. This will prevent children from getting too addicted to  gadgets . Unfortunately, this time management is only active when Kids Corner is turned on.

Outside of the Kids Corner, this device is no different from the Huawei MatePad SE 10.4. Even using the existing  case coupled with a bluetooth keyboard , it allows me to type some of this article easily. And using a  bluetooth mouse makes it feel like I’m working on a laptop.

Apart from Kids Corner, Huawei also provides 2 other applications for children. The first is Baby Panda World which contains a wide variety of  games for children. After that, there is also the Azoomee application which unfortunately I can’t try because it always  crashes, for some reason. Both of these apps require paid membership however 1 Huawei account can claim for free.

This tablet for children feels lag-free. This is inseparable from the use of the Qualcomm Snapdragon 680 SoC which is indeed powerful enough to run most applications and  games. And as usual, Huawei always locks its devices so that benchmark applications cannot be installed  . So, I can’t  benchmark anything on this one device.

To be sure, my kids play Roblox using this tablet and have no complaints at all. In fact, when I saw them they could play it without any  lag . As for testing with Genshin, I haven’t been able to do it due to a technical problem where my internet connection was interrupted for a week. However, I’m sure it won’t be a problem.

The battery on this tablet has a capacity of 5100 mAh and to test it, I used an MP4 file. This tablet is capable of running MP4 files that are repeated up to 9 hours 48 minutes. Charging the battery can last almost 3 hours from 0 to 100%.

Verdict

Frankly, giving tablets or  smartphones to children is like a double-edged sword. On the one hand, children get information and entertainment, but on the other hand, it will make children addicted and damage their eyes. Therefore, we need a device that understands the problem of these parents. One of them is by using the Huawei MatePad SE 10.4 Kids Edition.

This device also has sufficient performance to run all applications and  games on the Huawei AppGallery. Using the Snapdragon 680, of course, this device won’t get hot when used. The HMS ecosystem is also not a problem for children in finding the applications they want.

Huawei sells this children’s tablet at USD $222. This price, of course, includes  the case and stylus as well as several bonuses such as children’s application membership. The price does look quite affordable for children’s comfort and safety features which are easy to activate when using a gadget .
