Although the hardware is not as luxurious as its brother, OPPO Reno7 still has its own charm, especially in terms of design that looks different or not market.
Curious as to what the advantages of this smartphone? Come on, just take a look at our review!
Charming fiberglass skin
OPPO Reno7 is available in two color options, namely Sunset Orange and Cosmic Black. It just so happened that what came to our test table was Sunset Orange, aka the most unique of the two. According to OPPO, this color is inspired by the orange light that radiates when the sun goes down.
What distinguishes the Reno7 Sunset Orange from most other smartphones is the use of fiberglass skin material, which has gone through a complicated process to get perfect results and is more durable. The texture is like lychee grains made by a 6 times coating and roasting process.
If you touch, the sensation is very comfortable and quite premium, unlike the usual faux leather lining. The material is also not slippery and makes the grip feel more solid. Most importantly, it is fingerprint free so it doesn’t get dirty easily.
OPPO claims that the Fiberglass-Leather on the Reno7 Sunset Orange is a durable material, because it has passed a resistance test in the form of a friction simulation designed to mimic everyday use. The tests also included 5,000 rubbing tests with alcohol, 200 thousand rubbing tests with denim, and 10,000 rubbing tests with rubber.
It’s also worth noting that the Reno7 is a slim device. The design concept is retro with a flat center frame and flat edges. This smartphone has a thickness of 7.59mm, and the weight is quite right, which is around 175 grams. That means, you can easily carry it in your bag and in your trouser pocket.
No less interesting, on the back of the phone, OPPO Reno7 has a feature called Orbit Light. Remember the Dual-Orbit Light on the Reno7 Z 5G? The function is the same, but here there is only one light ring and its position is around the microlens camera.
Orbit Light can help fill in the light so that images captured using a microlens look brighter. In terms of aesthetics, Orbit Light can emit different light effects depending on the status of the device, for example Slow Breathing when turning on the phone, Continuous Light when charging, Blinking when there is an incoming call, and One Time Slow Breathing when entering a game application.
For additional information, OPPO Reno7 is equipped with a triple-slot consisting of dual Nano-SIM and one for microSD. At the bottom you are presented with a USB Type-C port which is side by side with a speaker hole and a 3.5mm audio jack.
AMOLED screen 90Hz
The Reno7 is armed with a 6.4-inch Full HD+ 90Hz AMOLED display complete with Netflix HDR, Amazon HDR, and YouTube HD certifications. Besides being able to provide a sharp and smooth image offering thanks to the high refresh rate, watching movies and TV series from your favorite platforms is also fun.
The brightness level is also quite good, a maximum of 800 nits. Outdoor use when the sun is shining is absolutely not a problem. This screen has also been protected by Gorilla Glass 5. Behind the screen you will also find a fingerprint sensor.
Talking a little about audio, OPPO Reno7 still relies on mono speakers. Fortunately, the resulting sound quality sounds clear and quite powerful, although of course it will be more leverage to accompany playing games or watching videos if it is stereo.
There is a microlens camera
Still remember the microlens camera on the Find X3 Pro which is able to capture the smallest details on objects? Now a more or less similar experience is presented to the Reno7 at a much cheaper price. This 2 MP microlens camera is capable of 15x or 30x magnification, and is equipped with an Orbit Light that functions as a lamp to provide additional light.
In addition to the microlens, on the back there is also a 64 MP main sensor and a 2 MP depth camera. For selfies, the Sony IMX709 32 MP sensor is a mainstay in front. According to OPPO, the IMX709 is an RGBW sensor with quadra binning algorithm, which is able to capture 60 percent more light while reducing noise by up to 35 percent.
Users will also find a series of typical OPPO features such as Bokeh Flare Portrait, Selfie HDR, AI Palette, Ultra-Clear 108MP Image, AI Scene Enhancement, and Flash Snapshot, which promises to make it easier for users to capture portrait photos with professional quality.
How’s the photo? Good in ideal light conditions. The captured image is sharp and the colors are vivid (not pale) but still close to natural. Even in dim conditions, it’s still okay if you activate night mode. The photos are bright, although noise is still visible and sometimes there is an increase in brightness in areas that we don’t think are necessary.
The microlens camera itself is quite interesting. Compared to macro, this one is definitely more fun because it can help produce work with a different perspective. Requirements for creating good microlens photos are bright light and a steady hand.
How about selfies? Evidently, the Sony IMX709 is not an arbitrary sensor. The development carried out by OPPO has succeeded in bringing portrait capabilities above average. The bokeh effect is neat and not overwhelming. If I may be a bit ‘excessive’, it is quite similar to the results of a DSLR.
For videography, the OPPO Reno7 camera is capable of recording up to 1080p resolution at 30fps. There is EIS support for more stable images. For the price range, it’s a shame that this smartphone can’t record 60fps or 4K.
Smooth performance
OPPO Reno7 relies on Qualcomm Snapdragon 680 accompanied by 8 GB of RAM (RAM Expansion up to 5 GB) and 256 GB of storage. Snapdragon 680 is definitely a good chipset. The performance provided feels agile and responsive, and is still powerful for heavier needs such as gaming.
But it must be admitted, for a smartphone with a price above 5 million rupiah, the performance offered by Snapdragon 680 is still lagging behind its competitors. There is nothing to doubt if you are not a gamer. To accompany daily activities, Reno7’s performance is more than adequate. The 6nm chipset fabrication also promises more optimal power efficiency.
The limitations of the new chipset’s capabilities will be felt when you run games that demand high graphics, such as Genshin Impact. Can still play at Low, although you will meet a lot of frame drops. But for lighter games like Mobile Legends, you can expect smooth performance on the right stuck settings.
What deserves appreciation is its ColorOS. OPPO is indeed good at concocting an operating system (based on Android 12) that has good power management and temperature management. Besides not being a waste of battery, even for intense use we did not experience an annoying increase in temperature. In fact, the Reno7 body is thin.
Battery? 4,500 mAh and enough to accompany your activities all day long. OPPO did not forget to embed 33W SuperVOOC technology which can fully charge 100 percent in about 1 hour. Still speeding, though not as great as his brother.
Beautiful phone with unique camera
OPPO Reno7 is not as fast as its competitors when we talk about performance. What must be underlined, OPPO did not design this phone for those who like speeding. The target market is those of you who want to look stylish and experience a different use thanks to a microlens camera.
For those who are interested, the OPPO Reno7 is sold at a price of Rp. 5,199,000 and can already be purchased through various official OPPO stores in Indonesia.
