Is the Xiaomi Mi 10T an upgraded version of the Mi 10? When viewed from the price, it is clear that it is not You are still presented with some of the hardware and features typical of flagship phones, but in a packaging that is not as premium as the Mi 10. One thing that makes the Xiaomi Mi 10T look so tempting is that it costs around USD $411.

re you curious about what his ability is? Come on, just take a look at our review:

Xiaomi Mi 10T design

The Xiaomi Mi 10T comes with a minimalist yet elegant exterior. The variant we are reviewing this time is the Cosmic Black color. When compared to the standard version of the Mi 10, you will find quite a significant difference in the rear camera design. Xiaomi chose to use a square frame by arranging the main sensor on the very top and two other cameras along with the flash just below it.

This part of the camera frame looks large and sticks out. Apart from taking up quite a bit of space, you also have to be careful when placing the Mi 10T on a flat surface so that the camera doesn’t bump. Fortunately in the sales package Xiaomi provides a softcase with a quality that we think is quite good and at the same time able to slightly protect the edges of the camera frame.

This smartphone has an aluminum body covered with Gorilla Glass 5 glass both on the front and back. At first glance it looks quite premium with a very good design quality, although unfortunately it can become a fingerprint magnet so it is easier to get dirty.

When held, the Xiaomi Mi 10T feels quite full. It weighs 216 grams with a thickness of 9.3mm which means it’s a bit big. For those of you who have small hands and like to put your phone in your pocket, the Mi 10T’s dimensions and weight may not fall into the comfortable category.

Moving to the front, Xiaomi has installed a 6.67-inch screen with a fairly thin bezel on the left, right and top. A little bit bigger at the chin, but in our opinion it’s still within reasonable limits. For selfie cameras, Mi 10T places the lens on the punch-hole in the upper left corner.

The Xiaomi Mi 10T fingerprint sensor has not implemented behind-the-scenes technology. Xiaomi immerses in the power button on the side. We’ve been trying it for about a week, and this sensor is able to work swiftly and accurately in reading our fingers. Its position also feels natural and easy to reach.

The Xiaomi Mi 10T has a USB Type-C port at the bottom, alongside the speaker hole. 3.5mm jack audio port? Unfortunately there isn’t. But don’t worry. In the sales box you are immediately given a USB-C adapter to a 3.5mm audio jack. So you can still use your favorite wired headset. One other thing you should know is that the Mi 10T doesn’t have a microSD slot. There are only two nano SIM-card slots.

Xiaomi Mi 10T screen

The screen is the feature that Xiaomi has put forward the most through the Mi 10T. The panel used is still IPS with Full HD + resolution. But the main selling point comes from the high refresh rate of 144Hz. Yes, 144Hz! So far, 144Hz mobile phones are still rare in Indonesia. There are already other brands, but the category is gaming and the price is more expensive.

For your information, the refresh rate on the Mi 10T is adaptive. The AdaptiveSync feature will adjust the refresh rate as needed, for example when watching movies, browsing social media, to playing games. In everyday use scenarios when high refresh rates are not needed, AdaptiveSync also adjusts the refresh rate to 60Hz or even 30Hz to save more power.

As far as our testing, the Xiaomi Mi 10T screen looks quite a feast for the eye. The black color is not as dark as the AMOLED screen, but overall, it is still satisfying to support various activities. The color is supported by TrueColor technology, the brightness level is okay in the sun, and already has TUV Rheinland certification to ensure your eyes don’t tire quickly when staring at the screen for too long.

A little discussing the audio sector, Mi 10T carries dual speakers and Hi-Res Audio certification. The sound quality is clear and powerful, as well as more alive because it is stereo. To accompany watching videos and playing games, we think the Mi 10T audio is very adequate.

Xiaomi Mi 10T operating system

Xiaomi Mi 10T adopts the MIUI 12 operating system based on Android 10. There has been no information leaked about the update to Android 11. To be sure you will still find a series of features that are typical of Xiaomi, most of which we think are quite useful for daily use.

Dark Mode is clearly available. You can also choose which third-party applications you want to force appear in dark mode, even though by default it doesn’t support it. Or vice versa. When you feel that dark mode is less than ideal in an application, you can disable it yourself specifically for that application.

Another feature that has always been our favorite is Second Space. For those who don’t know, it functions like having two smartphones in one device because the accounts and applications running in Second Space are completely separate. Game Mode? There is. Its function is similar to similar features on most smartphones.

One feature which is quite interesting and useful for us is floating windows. As the name implies, you can open an application in a small window while doing activities in other applications. Floating Windows has a full function, not just peering at what is happening in the application.

Xiaomi Mi 10T camera

The Xiaomi Mi 10T is armed with a 64 megapixel f / 1.9 main camera with a wide lens and PDAF support. In addition, you are offered a 13 megapixel f / 2.4 ultrawide camera and a 5 megapixel f / 2.4 macro camera. Yes, only three, although at first glance there are 4 cameras besides the flash. For those who like selfies, there is a 20 megapixel f / 2.2 camera on the front.

The rear camera on the Mi 10T is supported by a number of interesting additional features, from Pro, Portrait, Night, 64M, Slow Motion, Front & Back, Long Exposure, and Clone. The feature we mentioned last turns out to be quite fun. In essence, it makes it easier for you to create effects like the one below: (the first image is Clone Photo, the second is Clone Video)

Xiaomi 720p

In our opinion, the main camera photos are good in ideal light conditions. The captured details are high, the color reproduction tends to be natural, accurate, and the dynamic range is good. The absence of a telephoto lens means you can only rely on digital zoom when you want to shoot at a longer distance.

Another interesting feature worth checking out is Skyscapping 3.0. In short, with this feature you can change the atmosphere of the sky into several presets that are very diverse. The first photo below is the original photo, while the three below have been edited using Skyscapping 3.0:

Taking pictures at night will also provide satisfying photo results. The nuance of the night is maintained because the exposure is not overly lifted. What needs to be underlined, because there is no OIS you are obliged to keep your hands steady considering that Night Mode takes a few seconds to capture an image.

While the ultra wide camera on the Mi 10T is also quite okay, even though the details are not as sharp as the main camera. Even this wide-angle lens camera is also supported by Night Mode. That means, you can capture the night atmosphere with a wider image capture like the photo below:

For videography business, the Xiaomi Mi 10T is capable of recording video up to a maximum resolution of 8K. Yes, 8K. Apart from that, you can also record at 4K 60fps, 4K 30fps, 1080p 60fps, 1080p 30fps, and 720p 30fps resolutions. Xiaomi doesn’t forget to provide the Ultra Steady feature if you want to record stably in extreme conditions. Slow Motion? Up to 960fps at 1080p.

Xiaomi Mi 10T performance

Performance is clearly one of the main attractions of the Xiaomi Mi 10T. The combination of the Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 chipset with 8 GB of LPDDR5 RAM, whose performance is 1.5x faster than the previous generation, and 128 GB of fast UFS 3.1 storage is quite tempting.

Maybe the only thing that is somewhat of a barrier is 128 GB of capacity. Not that it is small, but because there is no microSD slot, you have to be smart about managing the files that are stored so they are not full. Moreover, this smartphone is capable of recording video at 4K or even 8K resolution, which means it will take up more space in storage.

In terms of performance there is nothing to doubt. Everything feels smooth, fluid, and very responsive. Even playing games, we haven’t encountered any significant problems. PUBG Mobile can be played comfortably in Ultra HD graphic settings with Ultra frame rates. PES 2021 is also safe.

Heavier games like Genshin Impact can also be played with high graphic settings (stuck right) at 60fps. The consequence is that the cellphone works harder, but its performance is relatively stable. During the game, of course, there is an increase in temperature, but it is still at a level that is not excessive and does not interfere with the game.

If you want to maximize the potential of a 144Hz screen, you must download game titles that already support high frame rate modes of 90fps or more. For example Shadowgun Legends or Dead Trigger 2. Endless run games like Temple Run 2 also support up to 120fps.

To further illustrate what the performance of the Xiaomi Mi 10T looks like, here we present some test results using the benchmark application:

Xiaomi Mi 10T battery

Perhaps one of the factors that makes the Mi 10T appear quite large is the 5,000 mAh battery embedded in it. On the plus side, the battery capacity is able to make this smartphone run for a long time. With a casual style of use, it is very easy to make Mi 10T a friend to do activities all day long.

Charging is also quite fast, although not the fastest in its class. In our opinion, 33W fast charging technology is not too behind compared to some of its competitors. It takes about 1 hour 15 minutes to be able to charge from below 10 percent to 100 percent full.

Conclusion

Don’t mean to exaggerate, but it must be admitted that the Xiaomi Mi 10T is a very tantalizing product. Not that it is perfect, it’s just that all the advantages it offers make some of the shortcomings of this smartphone seem unnecessary. Great performance, the camera is able to compete, the screen is 144Hz, and the battery is also durable. By design, the Mi 10T appears quite premium.

For those interested, the Xiaomi Mi 10T is priced at USD $411. Apart from the Cosmic Black color, Xiaomi also provides another variant, namely Lunar Silver with a matte finish.
