Samsung introduced its newest Android-based operating system, One UI 5. According to Samsung, the update has started rolling out gradually to Galaxy users around the world. What are the new features brought by this OS?

New features of One UI 5

In a press release received by Alomaki, Thursday (17/11), Samsung explained that one of the features offered by One UI 5 is Bixby Text Call. This feature allows users to answer phone calls by simply typing a message.

Later Bixby will convert text to audio and share it directly with the caller, as well as show the user what the caller said by converting his voice to text. Suitable for use when in a noisy area such as in the middle of a concert.

Another interesting feature is Routines, which is useful for creating a sequence of actions on your device based on activity. There are also Modes for making customized settings according to activities such as sleeping, relaxing, to exercising and driving. For example, when it’s time to sleep, the user can set to turn off the sound and lower the screen brightness.

From a design standpoint, One UI 5 has a new look and feel with more prominent app icons to a simplified color scheme. Notifications have also been made more intuitive so that they are easy to read at a glance. On the Home screen, users are presented with a new Widget Stack which allows drag and drop of widgets on top of one another, and swipe left or right to scroll through each widget quickly and easily.

To help streamline mobile tasks and activities, One UI 5 is also equipped with Smart suggestions for widgets. Users can also extract text from images and share it in notes, for example when they want to save a phone number from a business card.

Turning to the security sector, One UI 5 has the latest Security and Privacy Dashboard feature to make it easier and quickly understand device status. The operating system also has notifications in the new Share Panel that warn users when they accidentally share photos that contain potentially sensitive information, such as pictures of credit and debit cards, driver’s licenses, or passports.

Availability schedule

As mentioned above, the One UI 5 update has started to be distributed to all Galaxy users. Unfortunately, Samsung does not provide a definite schedule for each of its smartphone series.
