Samsung has succeeded in developing a new Universal Flash Storage (UFS), namely UFS 4.0. This UFS offers faster performance and will become the new standard for mobile storage space.
Features of Samsung UFS 4.0
Then how fast is Samsung UFS 4.0? According to Samsung, UFS 4.0 is capable of offering read speeds of up to 4200 MB/s and writes of up to 2800 MB/s. Twice as fast as the previous generation, namely UFS 3.1.
Another advantage is in power consumption. Samsung UFS 4.0 is claimed to be more energy efficient. As a result, Samsung UFS 4.0 will be able to have a significant impact on improving mobile phone performance.
Not only that, UFS 4.0 is also able to offer bandwidth speeds of up to 23.2Gbps per lane. In theory, this very large bandwidth capacity makes it ideal for 5G phones that require processing large amounts of data. Other usage scenarios UFS 4.0 is also ideal for AR (Augmented Reality) and VR (Virtual Reality) devices in the future. Another good news is about capacity. Samsung UFS 4.0 will later be available with a choice of capacities up to 1TB.
Availability of Samsung UFS 4.0
The current Samsung UFS 4.0 specification standard has been approved by JEDEC which is the Solid State Technology Association. Samsung UFS 4.0 is scheduled to make its debut in the third quarter of 2022. Samsung is also collaborating with several cellphone and other device manufacturers around the world to start developing devices and ecosystems so that UFS 4.0 adoption can be faster.
