Sonos announced the availability of the Roam SL. This portable speaker is a budget version of the Sonos Roam that was launched exactly a year ago.

Features of Sonos Roam SL

The Sonos Roam SL shares the same design as the Sonos Roam. The design is water-resistant with an IP67 rating (water-resistant to a depth of 1 meter for 30 minutes) and is drop-resistant.

The difference between the two is only in the features. As a budget version there are quite a lot of trimmed down Sonos Roam features. It’s quite reasonable considering the selling price of the Sonos Roam SL is also cheaper than the Roam.

The first feature missing is Sonos Trueplay support . This is a clever feature that allows Roam speakers to automatically optimize their sound settings wherever they are placed. In Roam SL, this feature can only be accessed via the Roam application and using the microphone on the smartphone only.

The second feature missing is the microphone. This means, Sonos Roam SL will also not support virtual assistants such as Google Assistant and Alexa that can be commanded via voice.

For the same specifications as Sonos Roam. This portable speaker is powered by a quad-core chipset, 1GB of RAM and 4GB of internal memory. Once recharged the battery can be used to listen to music for up to 10 hours. Bluetooth 5.0, WiFi, and AirPlay 2 support is also available.

Sonos Roam SL Price

The Sonos Roam SL is currently available in the US market at a price of US $159. US$10 cheaper than Sonos Roam which costs US$169. There are two color choices, namely white and black.
