Leica has released a rangefinder camera for black and white photography. The Leica M11 Monochrom will be the successor to the Leica M10 Monochrom which was launched in 2020. What’s the difference?

Specifications of the Leica M11 Monochrome

The M11 Monochrom is actually the M11 which was launched last year. But, on the all-black body there is no red dot logo typical of Leica. The specifications are also the same as the M11. This camera comes with a 60 megapixel full frame BSI CMOS sensor with support for “triple resolution” technology. The difference is, as a special black and white camera, the sensor is not equipped with a color filter. Thus, the M11 Monochrom is the first rangefinder camera with a 60 megapixel full frame monochrome sensor.

Thanks to Triple Resolution technology, users are allowed to shoot in RAW or JPEG format at 60, 36 and 18 megapixel resolution using the entire sensor area. Very flexible and can be adjusted according to needs.

If you want to save storage space you can shoot at 18 megapixel resolution. Meanwhile, professionals who need high-resolution photos can shoot at a maximum resolution of 60 megapixels.

So, the sensor sector is the most differentiating between the M11 Monochrom and M10 Monochrom . Previously, the M10 Monochrom used a 40 megapixel monochrome full frame sensor.

Like the M11, the M11 Monochrom also has internal memory available for storage space. M11 is equipped with internal memory with a capacity of 64GB. Well, the M11 Monochrom has much larger internal memory, namely 256GB. If this camera is lacking, it still provides a slot for inserting an SD memory card. Another feature on the M11 Monochrom is support for a battery with a capacity of 1800 mAh and a USB Type-C port for recharging the battery.

Leica Summilux-M 50mm F/1.4

The presence of this camera is accompanied by a new lens, namely Summilux-M 50mm F/1.4. The Summilux-M 50mm F/1.4 was developed while maintaining the optical quality of the legendary Leica by carrying out modern technology. The design is also more concise and lighter. For color choices, the Summilux-M 50mm F/1.4 will be available in black and silver.

Price of the Leica M11 Monochrome

M11 Monochrom is sold at US$9195. The price for the black Summilux-M 50mm F/1.4 lens is US$4495 and US$4795 for the silver color.
