Google has just updated the Google Chrome browser for the convenience of its users. This update provides performance improvements, as well as extending laptop battery life.
Mark Chang, Group Product Manager for Chrome, said on the official Google blog that they are introducing two new performance settings so that Chrome uses up to 40 percent memory and 10 GB less. That way, it is hoped that the browser can remain open more with lower battery usage.

The update will come via Memory Saver and Energy Saver modes in the Chrome browser. This new feature update can be enjoyed by all Google Chrome users globally in the next few weeks.
“From the start, we designed Chrome for speed. But regarding performance, it does more than just provide a fast browsing experience,” explained Mark Chang, Group Product Manager Chrome on Google’s official blog , Friday (23/12/2022).
For Chrome Memory Saver, this mode will free up memory/RAM usage from tabs that are not actively used in Chrome. So, users can keep a number of tabs open without having to worry about the RAM being used to swell like before.
Update Browser Google Chrome
If you only want specific sites that continue to run normally when this mode is turned on, Google gives users the freedom to include them in the “whitelist” so that sites will not be affected by this mode.
“This is especially useful when you are running other intensive applications, such as when editing family videos or playing games. All inactive tabs will be refreshed when you need them,” said Chang.
Meanwhile Chrome Battery Saver will limit activities running behind the scenes, including visual effects on websites such as animations or videos, when the device’s battery is below 20% and not in an area that has laptop charging. With this mode, it is hoped that the browser can still be used without worrying about the laptop battery running out quickly.
Chang also emphasized that users will have control to personalize the performance of the Chrome they are using, where this feature can be turned off. Users can also mark sites that are excluded from Memory Saver.
Later, the controls for this mode can be found in the three-dot menu above the Chrome display. So that it can be set by the users themselves if they don’t want to use it, and it is said that it will be present in Chrome for Windows, macOS, and ChromeOS.
