Vivo V20 is present as a serious challenger in the middle class, because the smartphone that carries the tagline “Perfect Shot, Perfect Moment” offers a neat combination of exterior appearance, hardware composition, and other supporting features.

Vivo V20 design

Beautiful and charming. Those two words first crossed our minds when we first held the Vivo V20. The Sunset Melody color variant that we tested looks so stylish. As the name implies, Sunset Melody emphasizes the nuances of beautiful sunsets. The color gradient always changes depending on the direction the light is coming from.

Vivo V20 uses AG Matte Glass on the back cover which also gives an elegant impression. Even more interesting, this glass has been coated with Anti Fingerprint technology so that it is not easily dirty by finger marks. Suitable for those of you who don’t like to install an additional casing. As far as our testing goes, that doesn’t mean there won’t be finger marks stuck together. It’s still there, but not too flashy and easy to clean.

On the back cover you will not find a fingerprint sensor. Yes, just like the previous generation, this sensor is behind the scenes. Regarding the placement of the rear camera, to be honest, we quite liked the frame design, which contains three sensors and a flash. Somehow, it looks good and adds aesthetics.

The body of the Vivo V20 Sunset Melody is also quite thin with a thickness of only 7.48mm and a weight of 172 grams. This makes the Vivo V20 one of the slimmest middle-class phones on the Indonesian market. In addition, even when held the V20 feels solid enough and comfortable to operate with one hand.

Unfortunately all the advantages presented through the V20 back cover design were a little disturbed when we glanced at the front. When almost all mid-range smartphones have started using a screen with a punch hole design to accommodate the front camera, Vivo actually retreated back and returned to the bangs design. Even though the V19 already uses a punch hole screen. The size of the bezel that surrounds the screen is also not exactly thin.

Vivo V20 has two SIM-card slots and a dedicated microSD slot. The port used is USB Type-C, and its position is at the bottom side by side with a 3.5mm audio jack and speaker hole. In the sales package, the Vivo V20 is equipped with a softcase and headset.

Although the design is a bit out of date, it must be admitted that the Vivo V20 screen is capable of displaying images well. The sharpness and saturation of the color looks indulgent to the eye. For your information, the Vivo V20 screen measures 6.44 inches with a Super AMOLED panel which has Full HD + resolution.

Not following the high refresh rate trend, Vivo V20 still relies on a 60Hz screen only. However, this screen has received SGS Eye Care Display certification, which means that it can reduce blue light emission which is not good for eye health.

In essence, the Vivo V20 screen is very adequate to support displaying various content. Behind this screen Vivo also immerses a fingerprint sensor. As far as our testing with a series of Vivo phones that have similar features, including the V20, the sensor is always able to read fingerprints quickly and accurately.

One thing that should be appreciated is that the Vivo V20 has adopted the latest Android 11-based FunTouch OS 11 operating system. In addition to the built-in features from Google, you will also find other interesting supporting features such as Multi-Turbo, Ultra Game Mode, and many more.

There is also Jovi Home which will make it easier for you to quickly access various features, such as memory cleaning, calculator, locking applications, and so on. Jovi Home displays relevant information for daily activities such as weather changes, health status during exercise, and suggestions to avoid dehydration.

Even more interesting, the Vivo V20 has also been equipped with NFC multifunction. It is called multifunctional because indeed NFC on this cellphone can not only be used to check e-money balances and transfer files, but can also move the access card function to the Vivo V20.

For the rear camera, the Vivo V20 is armed with a 64 MP main sensor, an 8 MP sensor with Super Wide, Super Macro and Depth modes, and 2 MP Mono. This camera has several supporting features such as Super Night Mode, Motion Autofocus with Smart Zoom which allows detecting and capturing moving objects, Memory Recaller, Dual-View Video (available for front and rear cameras), Art Portrait Video and Dynamic Sky.

As for selfies, the V20 is equipped with a 44 megapixel front camera with Eye Autofocus, which is a combination of Eye Tracking and Autofocus technology. According to Vivo, this feature is able to recognize parts of the eyes and face even though the user is moving in all directions, to ensure that the photos and videos remain focused.

The front camera of the Vivo V20 is also equipped with the ability to record videos up to 4K resolution. There are also other interesting features such as Super Night Selfie, Steadyface Selfie Video, Slo-Mo Selfie Video, and Dual-View Video which will simultaneously record video using the front and rear cameras at the same time.

The photo results can be said to be very good in its class, both in bright light conditions and indoors with lighting. The image captured with the rear camera looks sharp and the color saturation is slightly lifted, but not too overly.

The front camera is its main advantage. In fact, you could say, the selfie photos produced by the Vivo V20 are among the best in today’s cellphone lines. The color of the face looks quite natural, and overall the photo has minimal noise even though the shooting is done in low light conditions. You can also take advantage of the night mode for selfies in a slightly dark place.

Vivo V20 is armed with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 720G chipset accompanied by 8GB RAM and 128GB of internal storage. A combination that is relatively standard for today’s middle-class smartphone sizes. Even so, of course, the hardware combination is able to provide agile performance for various needs.

Daily use feels smooth without any significant obstacles. Switching from one application to another also tends to be smooth. For gaming, Vivo V20 is also still able to provide quite powerful performance, even for heavy games like PUBG Mobile.

With HD-High graphics settings, we are presented with a fairly stable frame rate, although sometimes we still encounter frame rate drops in certain scenes. The point is very playable. Playing Call of Duty Mobile also feels comfortable on high graphic settings. Mobile Legends? No problem.

Vivo V20 battery

Vivo V20 has a battery with a capacity of 4,000 mAh with 33W FlashCharge technology which can charge up to 65 percent in just 30 minutes. Yes, in terms of capacity, it is not too tempting. But keep in mind, a bigger battery might not be able to make the Vivo V20’s body this sleek and beautiful.

To accompany our activities all day long, the Vivo V20 battery still feels sufficient as long as we apply normal usage styles such as chatting, browsing, social media, and occasionally watching videos or playing games. The presence of the 33W FlashCharge feature proved to be very helpful when we didn’t have much time to charge it.

Conclusion

Vivo V20 has many positive improvements that make it appear much more attractive than the previous generation. In terms of design, we must admit that the V20 looks so charming, while the camera sector is able to accommodate our desire to capture everyday moments to be exhibited on social media.

Another plus, Vivo doesn’t forget to add some extra features that are quite useful, such as NFC and 33W FlashCharge. However, the Vivo V20 is not without flaws. One that we think is a bit unfortunate is Vivo ‘s decision to return to using a bangs screen.

Sold at USD $345, the Vivo V20 is an attractive option that you should consider when looking for a mid-range smartphone with complete features.
