WhatsApp is one of the most popular instant messaging applications today. Apart from sending messages in the form of text, images or videos, users can also contact someone via voice or telephone calls, or video calls.
Even so, WhatsApp sometimes we feel disturbed by calls from unknown numbers. It could be from a prankster, a scam, maybe an insurance quote. Fortunately, WhatsApp has a new feature to mute or mute unwanted calls.
How to mute WA phone calls from unknown numbers
The launch of this new feature was announced by Mark Zuckerberg through the Meta Channel on Instagram. According to Zuckerberg, the presence of this feature will provide more privacy to users.

- Make sure your WhatsApp application is updated to the latest version
- Enter the WhatsApp application
- Select the three vertical dots icon in the top right corner
- Select Settings
- Select Privacy
- Select Calls
- Then activate the “Silence Unknown Caller” mode
After this feature is active, WA will automatically mute calls from numbers that are not stored in your contact list. There is no ring or display to answer and reject calls.
Notifications persist
Even though we can mute calls from unknown numbers, WA still shows a missed call on the Calls page. That way, you still have the constraint of deciding whether to call the person back or not. It could just be a call from an important person.
